  • Score. Those are lovely. Love El84's

  • I can trace my AC30 obsession back to a pic in, I think, Mojo magazine in the early 90s of Tweedy with Wilco in a little sweaty club standing in front of one. Can't find the pic so here's some more amazingness. From my favourite Wilco era. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=el75UyYO554

  • Been listening to loads of Nick Drake. Which has cemented the long held idea that I want to make records that sound like Nick Drake records. http://www.philsbook.com/nick-drake.htm

  • Hello, I'm not sure if this is the right place but...

I made this guitar a few months ago and have just gotten round to fitting a pickup/internal mic. I thought it would be cool to have them in series, each going through their own pot so I can blend them and then have them go into a pre amp. The pre amp's got one of those tiny mini jack inputs so the lines from mic/pickup run to the same cable and plug in to the pre amp.

Anyway, the problem I'm having is that I can get each signal to go through its pot and work by itself but as soon as I connect them both together it's like the mic line is completely draining the pickup's signal. The pot I'm using for the mic is one I stole from another guitar but I don't see how this would effect it. I've got all the grounds wired up fine and I tried to fit a diode to make sure the signal wasn't doing some kind of short circuit but the resistance from the diode was too much for the tiny signal.

This is probably a simple case of user error, if there's something I'm missing please let me know.

    Thanks!

  • i dont know the first thing about guitars, but that looks ace.

  • Ha, thanks. The body's made from Thame's driftwood, it's fun to play but bloody heavy.

  • I really like Joe Cumia's contribution here, but the whole ensemble work together great. Drummer must be drumming whilst hungry - ever felt that super-light pedalling when you haven't eaten for 12 hours but feel ok for now - ? I like that feeling - light, fast, low mass, easy, smooth...

  • Plugged into my Twin today, made me question buying the AC15 as it runs rings around it... Sounds marvellous...

Been getting to grips with the new Les Paul as well, harder to play than a modern neck but I seem to be getting the hang of it... Might need a little bit of a tweak to get the set-up just right... It's not a very resonant guitar, could be cuz it's a pancake and made of about fifty bits of mahogany (!) but it still sounds ace through the Twin... Gibson guitars and Fender amps, a marriage made in heaven...

  • Can we have a clip Joe

  • I don't do clips, V... 😬

  • I don't normally do this, excuse the ropey playing (and the hairy legs)... She still sounds great... Do I need the Ac15? No... Am I keeping it? Fuck yeah!

  • Awesome...

  • Wot no Hot Legs? Sound great man. What's the filth pedal?

  • Sorry GrahamLaming, but that is hawribble.

  • Joe DAT neck pickup, dayum

  • Sounds like some kind of fuzz, tightens up nicely

  • Sounds like shite you get on CD's of the Guitarist...

  • I put up a description, full details there... Neck pickup sounds pretty bloody good, shame I'm not gonna use it much... 😬

  • i'm a sucker for neck pickup sounds. In any guitar. I think my tele obsession was an early attempt to wean myself off strat neck pu sounds and into the harsh bright world of treble. It was a partial success.

Found the receipt for my tele yesterday. Andy's. April 2003 (it's a 2001 model tho). £700. I can't have haggled at all. Idiot. Weird to think a 2001 tele will be 15 years old this year. VINTAGE!

  • I fear I'll be picking up a Gibson J35 after new year. I've been playing one at a shop a few times, today I took my Martin OM as a reference. I think the two would complement each other nicely. The 35 was brighter and less bassy than the J15 they also had, the former being noticeably lighter and very responsive imo. Couple of visual details I'm not too keen on, but something I expect I could live with. I really wasn't looking for a second acoustic, I just stopped at the shop to pick up some little people christmas presents. Anyway it's been 7/8 years since I got the Martin so maybe another one is due.

  • May record my Matamp

  • Gibson J35

I noticed a few tiny build "issues" after I took it home, but the guitar builder I showed it to said it's absolutely fine (liked how it sounded too) and I'm happy to take his word for it. So far I'm really into how this thing sounds and plays. The slope shoulder shape is nice.
