  • Any recommendations for a tube amp with a budget of 4 to 5 hundred quid to spend? Thinking of a vox ac15 or a fender blues deluxe at the mo. Any help would be great.

  • Late 50s AC15s are amongst the best amps I've ever played through... No idea how faithful the current circuitry is to the original, I'm afraid... BOSS!

  • That looks lovely but maybe out of my price range. Played through a few contemporary Chinese made ones in Denmark st the other day and they sound great apart from the reverb which is a bit shitty. My main issue is whether to go for the cleaner toned fenders or the more crunchy voxes. I mainly play blues, rock and a bit of funk/soul.

  • I've played a couple of the Fender Junior amps and they sounded great, last time I checked they were pretty cheap... How about a tweed Fender Blues Junior? Found one for £501, click the image...

  • Good shout TS. Might pull the trigger on one next week.

  • Depends what size you want I spose. I was never big fan of the Blues Junior (12' speaker and I think a 6V6 output tube), the smaller Pro Junior has 2 knobs, a 10" speaker and EL84 output tubes and sounds more Vox-ish than Fendery. In your budget too: http://www.reidys.com/pr/guitar-amplifiers/fender-pro-junior-15w-45/?&utm_source=GoogleBase&utm_medium=Feed&utm_campaign=PriceComparison&gclid=CjwKEAjwuYOeBRCy3pLljpjDkDcSJAAhA4mtGp-Pb4x0rtEcZzmwZ4aOg5aPz1SSAdytVltMbBVJbxoC1vXw_wcB

EDIT! I dun a rong. It was the Blues Deville series with the 6V6 outputs I didn't like. The Blues Junior and Pro Junior both have EL84 output sections. They're like mini Fendery AC30s and AC15s.

I've tried the re-issue AC15s and they're actually pretty great. There a few different levels of spec, origin and quality though... I'm pretty out of touch with the finer details.

I'd always used to advocate s/h silverface Fenders over new re-issue stuff but even they seem to be commanding silly money now. They even re-issued the whole series, but with the obligatory extra HOT gain stages that no-one in their right mind wants. Why do amp manufacturers always do that?

  • Anyone got any tips on posting a guitar?

I'm thinking of selling my Kramer DMZ 3000 and short of sending it in a hard case (which I don't have) I'm not sure how much I should be reinforcing the package. I sold a cheap Danelectro years ago that I just put in a cardboard guitar box with plenty of padding but this is worth more and is quite a lot heavier...

  • Get a proper box from a guitar shop?

I was once sent a S/H Tokai from Japan in a loose box with loads of bits of screwed up newspaper in it... The seller hadn't even taken the neck off... Amazed ity arrived in one piece...

  • Thanks dooks

  • They are great little amps...

  • I would ship the Kramer with the neck unbolted if it's not going in a hard case.
    I also have a DMZ3000 for sale.
How much are you after for yours?

Aye I've been on the receiving end of some shoddy packaging over the years too. Once got a Marshall JCM 800 with no back plate to cover the tubes, and no packing at all - the postage label was just stuck on the side of the head.

See that hadn't even occurred to me but it makes perfect sense!

I put it up for £400 expecting to get bid in the bollocks. I couldn't bring myself to offer it for the pure bargain price as I don't particularly want to sell it, it's just I have 3 electrics and I only use 2 of them with any regularity.

  • Fed up of having to drive/cab/bus to local gigs with my Guild M-120 in a hard case. Want to cycle again with guitar on my back. Really struggling to find a 00 (concert sized) gig bag. Classical guitar bags are the nearest I've found. Any ideas?

  • Floating the idea of selling my 80's Hiwatt, 100W valve bass custom head. Tone pots are in the wrong way ie bass adjusts treble, two channels, was re-valved and biased about 6 years ago after which had 2 weeks of studio time then went into storage. I don't have a cab anymore so I can't test it, but should be working fine. Of course you're welcome to come try it. I used to run it through an orange obc410 which sounded great for both bass and low fuzzy guitars. Tolex a bit tatty but reflects age. Would consider swap for a track frame sized 52cm or digital SLR. I've been told to expect a cash price of around £500 assuming it still works well. PM if interested, in no hurry as I have a romantic idea of saving it and my fender for the kids, too.

    Hey Dooks
    Check out Freebird's gig-bag here.

I'm not sure what it is (Freebird?). She uses it almost daily to carry guitars to her students house when she teaches

  • can you not affix some straps to the Guild case?

  • A hard case is pretty heavy and has to be carried like a suitcase, hence the drag of it.

I use a soft £20 gig bag with adjustable straps like a rucksack. Big enough for all guitars. My bag's a 'Guvnor'.

  • Hell's teeth, this is cool. I've never seen one before AND it's in the UK. Bloody spendy though.

Dooks, have searched for 00 bags and it's really tricky. My first thought was a Godin or Taylor item, but no luck yet.

  • Man the jack scoket/strap-button my my Guild is driving me nuts. The friggen thing comes unscrewed all the time. The nut on the inside works loose causing the whole thing to move freely back and forth. You can't tighten it by twisting the casing as it has the pickup wires attached to it so the only way is to tighten the nut on the inside but my hands are too big to fit inside the guitar. Got my missus to try a couple of times and even tried superglue and electrical tape on it to stop it coming undone again but every time it last about a week then clomes loose again. Ffffff.....

  • do u even loctite?

  • I need someone with really small hands to do it though, might try the ladywife again although she has failed on her previous attempts with glue and tape.
