  • Legend...

  • Fail. Sorry Rick, could have sworn blind I had all the odd bits from a Twin kit here but the drawer of bottles says otherwise.

I'm SURE i have one somewhere. I bought them to try and lower the gain and get moar headroom out of the Champ when I was running it with another amp... I'll keep digging but don't hold your breath. Sorry chap.

  • Also!

Reasons I never want to leave London. A fucking Uncle Tupelo Covers band. I mean.. COME ON!

Sade - Smooth Operator [Bass Solo] - YouTube

HAhahaha! Oh man. That's so unbelievably shit. Love the closed eyes yes moment after he NAILS IT

  • Thanks for rummaging, Mr Dooks, no worries… I'll hit up Watford valves. Cheers!

Geekery: I put a pedalboard together recently (and used it with the mighty Hornimen of Elvers fame. Woop).

My first ever… I just used to throw a tremolo and a dirt pedal on the floor.

It's only rattle-canned plywood, but I am pathetically proud. Vintage pen box is a cable tidy. The gap is for something silly which I haven't decided on yet.

  • ^ nice

I played a Fender Bass XI earlier - loved it!!

  • ^Very cool...

Just tried a 74 Precision with a Jazz width neck. Sunburst, crazy light. Arrrrgh. Must. Not.

  • Sounded as good as it looks Rickster. I've never got round to sorting out a board. Should do really as my pedals haven't changed in years now.

I'm playing at this tomorrow. How cool?

May even break out the Guitalele, with which I am now in smit.

  • Genuinely one of my favourite guitar players in one of my favourite bands, Zal Yanovszy pretending to play his awesome Guild.

  • How easy is it to install pickups? The pickups on my ESP have sort of sunk if that makes sense, they are no longer sitting the way they should be and I want to set them up properly again. Im also toying with the idea of replacing the pickups entirely as I've never been able to get the sound I want out of them so if remounting is a job for a professional then perhaps this is the excuse Ive been looking for. Any thoughts?

Shouldn't be tricky, usually just a few turns of the height adjustment screws on the side should fix it.

If it doesn't, then maybe the springs around the screws have become detached or the foam underneath has got too squashed, it depends on the mounting system. Post a pic?

  • Wow, it really was just as simple as adjusting some screws, thanks.

  • get guitar back from menders... "what? you want your old strings back? nah, we er... threw 'em away mate"

    thieving cunts.

  • That's seriously poor. If a shop chucked away my flatwounds I would go nuts...

  • fucking chancers.

the shopgirl spun a line about 'usually our customers ask up-front if they want us to keep old strings' do they, fuck, you've half-inched them! it's not like they were anything special but a spare's a spare.

He did offer to huffily 'go and find some old strings lying about if you really want' but by that point i was fucking livid and gearing up for a power-flounce out the shop.

Still, did a bang up job setting up my bass.

moral of the story: avoid the bass gallery in camden.

  • power-flounce

    Excellent

  • Meh. I've had worse guitar shop cuntage. Worst one I can think of right now was taking a Big Muff Pi into Andy's (as was) for repair. I came back to pick it up and found it for sale in the window. Classy.

Also they sold 2 Telecasters on commission for a friend of mine from the states and never paid him.

Oh and when I bought my main/only/lifelong Tele from them in 2001 I haggled a price with the sales child, shook on it then wandered off to look round the shop. I was in earshot when he started bragging to Andy what he'd managed to get for it. I paid it. Like a cunt.

Oh and once bought a crappy Tanglewood acoustic from them in the late 90s cos I needed an acoustic with a pickup in a hurry for a gig. They gave me the big blah blah speech on the sale. Brought it back to trade/sell a couple of months later and got the "where did you buy this piece of shit from" speech. I was pretty immune to both by then.

Looking back, I can't believe I ever put up with that shit but I wasn't a total sucker and shopped around. I went with Andy's because of all the cunts on that street they still had the best stuff and best (post haggle) prices. I'm fucking glad they went bust though cos if they hadn't I might have put a burning bag of dog poo though their door eventually. The cunts.

The internet may have killed of a lot of shops... but it's killed off a lot of shit shops and has done wonders for customer service in the ones that remain. Those gems are few and far between and I remain loyal to all of them.

    Angel Music = rad squared
    Chandlers = sweet guys

Any more good ones? I'm struggling.

I've always had good service in regent sounds and they are pretty competitive in prices, one if them looked up sounds live's price for some no caster pickups and beat their price saying he hates em....
