  • Let me try one out first, wanna make sure the neck profile is what I'm after... i.e. wide and flat, like on a '59/'60 junior... My '58 is really clubby, sounds great but I hate playing it... :(
    The gig was fun!

  • Wonderful.

  • I know this is the guitar thread but I've been playing this a lot lately... think it's one of my favourite vocals of all time.

Bob Dylan - Moonshiner - YouTube

  • Not shit tab site shocker.

Hours of drippy indie strum fun.

  • I'm pretty skint so have been thinking I might sell my Boss RC-30 Loop Station, its hardly been used and i have all the box and manuals to go with it. £170 if anyone is interested PM me

    His timing is amazing
(You know there is a Dylan thread?)

Bargain - I've got one and they're great.

  • Hey Bref you about on Thursday? I was wondering if you might be up for pre-forming a tune or two at one of my King Charles Thursdays. Gimme a shout man.

That goes for anyone interested btw. PM me with links to recordings if you fancy doing a short set in a sweet little pub in Kings Cross in support of my country/folk thang.

Oh and while I'm here, our accodion player is is selling a cheapo (brown olympic few bits missing) drum kit, a flat backed mandolin w/pickup and some other bits if anyone's interested.

Ha shit I'd missed that. Thanks man. Dylan's one of those things that I tend to binge on from time to time then leave alone only to come back to every couple of years or so. It's usually occasioned by the discovery of some new bootleg or previously unknown record and it starts all over again.

I'll take any future Zimmerman meanderings to that thread. Personally I wish he's HurryTFU and release Chronicles Vol 2.

  • On other stringy thingies, I had an unexpectedly musical weekend occasioned by the missus being laid up with flu meaning that beyond a bit of light nursing I was free to duck all social commitments and spend Saturday and Sunday playing music with friends. Saturday; harmonies, beer and guitar with Lucy in Hoxton. Sunday accordions tea and biscuits and banjo with Stew in Bermondsey. Lovely. Looking forward to combining the two with a bit of upright bass in Limehouse tomorrow. I'm really enjoying playing at the moment and despite getting jittery about things last week am really pleased with how my little crew of part-time contributors have upped their game lately. Really having fun with it.

Ordered a pickup for the banjo on Friday from here http://www.thomann.de/gb/index.html and am looking forward to playing it a fair bit more at my regular nights. Am even going to have a run at (a very simplified and possibly ill advised version of) Foggy Mountain Breakdown this week. Please don't tell the trad police. I'm also sadly excited about having ordered some poncey expensive cables also from the above. Custom shop tweed angled jack cables. Mmmmmmm(uso).

  • Dooks - help me find some people to play banjo with?

  • Really want a Yamaha LL dreadnought but can't quite justify the expense. So damn nice.

  • Dooks - help me find some people to play banjo with?

Err.. me? I don't know anyone else who plays. Oh, except this due who i've sort of lost touch with. http://www.fredwoodbear.com/

Come down on Thursday if you fancy joining in. I'm working up a the "Elvers Fakebook" of country and folk chord charts and can mail you a work in progress if you're interested.

    Here's this week's covers list:

    • Dark as the Dungeon – Merle Travis F# (E capo 2)

    • 1952 Vincent Black Lightning – R. Thompson Bb (open capo 3)
    • Yankee Bayonet – The Decemberists C
    • Emmylou – First Aid Kit C
  • Thanks. Thursdays are no good for me atm but I'll have a crack at the tunes on the list to see how I go (I am new to the instrument)

  • To clarify, the capo notes on the above refer to the guitar not banjo.

  • Hrm, ok. Some good ideas for tunes for me to learn in any case.

  • Can anyone lend me an SM58 (or 57) for Thursday night?

  • Damn. The digital interface on my Variax crapped out (from having a regular jack poked in there by mistake), and Line6 UK won't sell spares. Then I snap up a Variax 700 (which is a Japan-built top of the line model with a tremolo) on Ebay that is advertised as "all electrics tested and working perfectly" only to find when it arrives that the digital socket on that is fucked up in exactly the same way.

So that's two new complete jack assemblies I just had to order from a US supplier with £37 shipping.

  • But the sellers of the 'new' variax have agreed to refund me the cost! Phew.

  • How're you finding the Variax? I thought it was a great idea but can't imagine how the thing would sound.

I did just pick up a Line 6 multistompbox thing, it's brilliant, instant Robin Guthrie.

  • Also I'm after a guitar with a bigsby, anyone got anything?
