The above mentioned friend had Washburn J200-alike that sounded great. here's a pic in fact.
Heh, that's me looking uncomfortable with the d'Armond bass. I dunno though I just have a real thing about Martins and the Gibson slope-shoulder dreadnaughts. Just love them. I always think J200s look like lead singer's guitars as opposed to guitarist's guitars. You never saw Dylan or Martin Carthy or Richard Thompson with a jumbo did you? Always dread' or smaller bodied model.

Gibson L00 or a Kalamazoo K10... Do it, folk guitars FTW!

What are they like volume wise though? I'm doing quite a few totally unplugged things at the moment and struggling for volume. Have to compete with banjo, accordion, bass and a rowdy pub. I do some finger picking with brass finger picks but more often than not i'm bashing away with a flatpick. Think something small bodied like that will put out enough welly when hit hard?

Oh, should say. I had a chat with Mrs dooks last night about this and she's agreed to let me splurge on a new acoustic in the new year. WooHOO!

True Dooks, about the 200. I've got an Epiphone J45 TV '63 reissue with snot green klusons. Its lovely. Worth considering if Gibson is prohibitive

I always found that whatever the pricepoint Guild accoustics sounded lovely.
If I had the money I'd be seriously tempted by a Maton as well.I had an Ibanez Concorde 12 string which was a J200 copy, and it sounded great, but never able to stay in tune. Shame really as it would be worth a fair bit now if my angry adolescent self hadn't kicked my foot through it and slung it out of a 2nd storey window.

I had a look at some beautiful guild acoustics in Hanks last week actually.
As I'm back on one of my regular Dylan benders, here's Bob with his Gibson Nick Lucas.

^ Pretty much what my Kalamazoo looks like... They are quieter than a dreadnought but sound lovely, honky bass yet a crystal clear top end... Maybe mine's special...
Rickster should chime in, he has a coupla acoustic beauts... -

Dooks, volume is mega on a well built L00 type, mine has a slightly deeper body than the 'blues king' versions, which means it can double up for strummed chords as much as fingerpicking. You have to be a man when you play it though, not a whimp.
Took me a while to find it, was in Hanks, Denmark st. specially made for an artist from the US to use when he came to London's famous London. He never came, Gibson sent the guitar to hanks, I bought it for much less than the new price.

Legends play the Vortex last night
Wizz Jones and John Renbourn play Jansch tributeI adore Love Fresh As A Sweet Sunday Morning... off LA Turnaround... it's one of my fave Jansch songs.
Saw his last-ever show, at the Royal Festival Hall. I have his backstage pass sad face
Watching that vid reminded me that somebody once asked Danny Thompson what it was like with Jansch and Renbourn in Pentangle, and he crisply replied "It's like playing with one c*** who can't play in tune and one who can't fucking play in time."

Ooh yes, J-45. One of the all-time greats. Weird how necks and sound are very variable, so risky picking up used US bargains. For more volume, maybe an Advanced Jumbo (same but rosewood and long-scale)? Can equal a D-28, but still with some of that lovely Gibson thunk.

I kind of want one of these...

Was listening to a playlist I made up for my band of heathens to learn loads of folk/country standards. I was just enjoying a bit Merle Travis and noticed for the first time the camp genius of his (Nudie I presume) jacket in this cover photo.
It's a fucking rhinestone encrusted Christmas themed Nudie suit in elf-tastic green and red with camper than camp reindeer embroidered on it.
Awesome.

One of my buddies decided yesterday that he wanted to play the guitar and wanted a cheap and cheerful acoustic. I gave him a few recomedations in his £100 budget, he ordered yesterday afterneen and had a Yamaha F310 acoustic delivered this morning. That's not bad really is it?

I want one of these, unfortunately it's never gonna happen...
I might take you up on that Gibson deal, Al, if it's OK?
-
• #1967
Course mate. What are you after? The only thing I can see that might be an issue is that you'd have to trust my buddy to pick you out a good one and ship it over. He's off on tour at the moment but back soon. Pint next week? I'll drop you a line in a bit.

Cool. Alright dude I'll speak to my connect this weekend.
Gutted to have missed halloween btw. Hope it was spooktacular. Sorry. Sorry. Urgh. Sorry.
I'd love a J200 and a proper SG with the small pickguard, but even at 60% that's way more money than I can justify.
Mind you, modern Nashville Gibsons are exceptional quality. My LP BFG arrived by post perfectly set up, and in tune. I love it to bits.
