  • Shameless plug for my pedal sales thread. US Big Muff and Boss DS-1.

  • What are the current 'must haves' for cables these days?
I used to gig with a metal armoured thing which was bombproof, had a solid signal and despite being a bit heavy was completely supple. Like a twat, I gave it away when I stopped playing out. I can't see these for sale anywhere any more, why?
Recently got what I had left out and the guitar cables I have are horrible, stiff with loads of memory which means they are a pain to deal with.
For all my recording I've always made up my own leads on decent cable (sommer or whatever) makes sense to do the same for instrument cable unless anyone can recommend a cost effective OTFP lead which isn't like a spring and will last for a while?

  • I used Klotz La grange. Had some dude make up lengths, specific Neutrik jacks for me on eBay.

  • I've always been pretty happy with Planet Waves gear, and mine have lasted really well, but the last cables I bought was back when I was a teenager, so this might be the equivalent of recommending a cassette of a Dodgy album.

Its all about old school unshielded cables for vintage mojo.

  • I deffo need some anyway, mine are all over 10 years old, heavily used and crap.
    Studiospares order then I suppose.

  • And props to Thomann, ordered on Saturday (processed over the weekend, despite website saying they're not open) posted on Monday and arrived yesterday, brilliant tracking service through their website too.

How supple is the klotz, ved?

  • RPM - I like Cleartone cables. Neutrik plugs, nice flexible Van Damme cable, any length/plug combo you can think of, made in UK, reliable so far, cheap too.

  • Planet Waves for quality although I still love using tweed cables just because they look awesome. Might try the Fender Custom Shop Tweed cables. Not too expensive and they look cool. The whole thing of using crazy expensive cables with solid copper cores and 24k gold shielding is absolutely ridiculous as there's just no way you're going to have a perfect signal path from start to finish anyway and even if you did no one would really be able to tell the difference. As long as it's not got Rice Krispies in it it'll do me.

    Finally! we agree!

I've tried every kind of cable. they all break eventually. I love the look, feel and anti-tangle properties of fender tweed cables. But really, as long as it doesn't crackle or or cut out i'm happy.

  • It worked out marginally cheaper to buy Neutriks and some Klotz form SS Vs ready made cable, so I've gone down that route. Maybe I should have bulk bought and made a load up to sell but I'm kinda busy!

    Next stop, wah pedal.

  • Its very good Rob. Very supple not had any issues.

  • I make my own most of the time, mogami cable with neutriks jacks, but the planet waves gear is great bang for the buck.

  • No one rocking curly cable?

Guy made an eight string guitar with removable frets for any possible combo of tunings, he can play the shit out of it too

  • Hi all,

my son is thinking about getting a bass guitar. He is very keen on getting a Thunderbird.

    Thanks in advance.

Has your son tried one for any period of time? Mine weighs a tonne; and it's got that stupidly heavy headstock issue which makes playing it a bit of a 'different' experience. Does sound and look lovely though.

  • Rescued my wife's old 3/4 size encore nylon string from her partent's attic a few weeks back. It's cheap, nasty, painted with nail varnish flowers and stars and has never had new strings since she got it as a young teenager. I cannot put it down. Love it.

  • Bass players? Just had to turn down a gig at the Boogaloo cos i don't have a working band. Anyone know of anyone?

  • I know that's not you :-)

I meant your sound cloud link

  • I want a bass player and a drummer for a cunning plan.

  • "A cunning plan" sounds like a middle aged rock band
