hey nerds. seen this?
http://www.fender.com/en-GB/products/pawnshopamps/index.php#PSA-excelsior
demos i've heard sound great. not a huge fan of the uber-retro looks and three (including "accordion") inputs in lieu of a tone control but; affordable, portable, 6V6, 13 watts, tremolo, 15" speaker... it's RIGHT up my street.

Cheers Zed, good to meet you again and thanks for the pedal. Too late to try tonight but i have a rehearsal tomorrow and will be giving it a good blast. Must say, it looks very handsome. Ta.

Looks like its trying too hard. But not as much as the Greta.
These will become cheap and unwanted before becoming rare, sought after and expensive. Probably. -

yeah it's cheap and looks tacky, but the package and the price are right. i want somehitng i can play out with that sounds good is reliable and i don't have to fret about. I don't like carting my delicate old amps about to gigs. personally, i think it looks like a lot of fun. will wait to see how the reviews are after it's been out there a few months. tdpri is usually the best spot for these.

Anyone play fingerstyle and got any advice for maintaining a decent set of nails?
I get them all nice and shaped only for them to break after a bit of not so heavy playing.
-
• #1759
Nope, my fingerboard hand always has super strong unbreakable nails, and the picking hand always has piss-weak short broken nails.
Use finger plectrums?
or false nails? -
• #1760
Tried finger plectrums; a non starter. I asked a friend about nail varnish, and she said no one would use varnish to strengthen their nails, but she often thinks she know it all and doesn't. She once left a chicken carcass in the fridge for over a week and laughed at me for telling her not to make risotto with it. She was in A&E 6 days later, and I was like "Who's laughing now?".
I know false nails work, but that's a bit over the top for me. Is that what spanish players do you reckon?
-
• #1761
I used to have horrible stubby nails from a lifetime of nailbiting. But after going tee total on my right hand, and allowing several regrowths, the nails got stronger and longer each time. Now I have big long (and strong) nails on right hand that would put a flamenco player to shame.
It takes a while to get to this point, a few months at least. If you are having no luck try improving your diet. Or you could just try harder with finger picks, they have a massively steep learning curve but are amazing for those who use them, once people get comfortable with them they never go back.

Anyone want the Fuzz Face ?
eBay is massively pissing me off. There must be a better way...

How much, Zed?

Hi Zed. Pedal sounds great thanks man. One slight issue I've found though is that as soon as you attach a power supply it kills everything else on that power chain?
Is it some weird (not 9v dc) thing or is it just a glitch? Not a big deal as it works fine on the battery.Neu, I used to play with a guy who played with his nails and and regulalry went for manicures to get layers of varnish added and cracks glued up etc. I'm sure this process occasionally included a false nail too. Would seem to be the logical thing if you play with your nails and keep breaking them...
Intrigued as to why you think finger picks are a non starter though? They do take some getting used to but I was up to speed within a couple of weeks. These things are suppose dto replicate the sound and feel of playing with nails:

Ok I will try and persevere. I might get a nylon classical guitar instead though. Maybe a little foot stand and a woman with some Castanets too.

How much, Zed?
40 squid

Yo Dooks - yeah sorry you won't be able to run it in your pedal chain power supply. You have to run it off battery. Sounds better that way anyway.

Anyone flogging any condenser mics? Let me know kids
-
• #1771
Not flogging but I can lend you some unremarkable but fully operational ones. Got at rode NT1A and a cheap Stagg pencil condenser you're welcome to have a lend of.
Cheers zed. not a problem at all. soundzz great anyway. Will post something using it soon. In the meantime, here's my latest recording.

Nice dooks. Reminds me of The Coral.
-
• #1773
Cheers Dooks, might just take you up on that.
Already said on the soundcloud but the new recording sounds great, good dynamics and the instruments all sound great, but I'm not keen on the chorus type effect on the voice - think your voice sounds great and doesn't need it. Great sounding track, and it's a brilliant song too.
-
• #1774
Wow - glorious track. Really beautiful.
-
• #1775
Cheers chaps. Hmmm, BR you're not not the first to remark they're not a fan of the double tracking (for that it what a gwan there - the "chorus" is just a natural side effect of my slightly erratic pitching). I do have another mix of it with a single vocal. Maybe i should listen to that one again.
Yep just give me a shout if you want to borrow the mics.
BJs only.
