  • Is anybody here looking for a Fender Jazz? I have a Mexican made 1960's Classic Series from 2014, has sat unused for the last few years and realistically I can't see when I'll use it again, which seems a shame. Plays really nicely, though I reckon it would benefit from a proper set up. Condition is great overall.

  • Man that’s a nice bass. Price? For the benefit of others i should say. I’m not gonna buy it…

  • Well… probably not

  • And so it begins

  • Don’t. Anyone want to buy a kidney?

  • Heavy relic

  • Re: terrace living, I do. I just keep it reasonably quiet and only play for half an hour at a time and never in the evening. Have to get my cranked amp fix in rehearsal rooms. I’ve always lived in flats anyway, so just basic decent neighbour rules apply I reckon.

  • I have a piano too. Keep it away from the party wall and try not to be too annoying?

  • Ha yep that would be useful . Happy to be told if I’m way off but somewhere around the £600 mark?

  • Just been to Roberts Western World on Broadway, Nashville, https://robertswesternworld.com/ . What a show!! The band on last night had on luke mcqueary lead guitar playing a Tele thinline. I’d be surprised if I ever see a better player. Look him up on YouTube , the most recent I can find is him at 19 and he’s awesome. He’s 22 now and blindingly good, I opted not to record anything, I just wanted to watch. Speaking to a guy next to me (who is a Broadway regular player) Luke is in the top 10 players in the world right now.

  • “Try not to be annoying” is certainly a given, I’ve been trying to manage my own expectations haha. I’m aware of how annoying listening to someone work on a new song must be, plus frankly I don’t like my OH being able ti hear that embarrassing shit

The rollercoaster of my house move has taken another turn so juuust maybe my bikes+music den in the garden could be back on

  • Weird ask but anyone got any original 1960s-70s guitar straps knocking around? Fancy something period correct..

  • Got my swinger back from LA Guitars last week. Plays like an absolutely dream and sounds so warm and rich with the thicker strings he put on there. 10/10 service, couldn’t recommend him enough.

On that note I feel like I’m not really getting on with the epiphone sg. It’s a basic model(bolt on neck) but if anyone fancies a straight swap for a squire strat or tele(especially if it’s got a humbucker) then give me a shout.
I’ve currently got it with thick strings tuned to C standard but can chuck in some regular strings if it swings the deal. Or if anyone wants it for what I paid(£100) then let me know. Comes with gig bag and strap.

If no one’s interested I’ll keep the sg and learn some metal on it but getting the swinger back reminded me I’m just a fender fan boy..

Will be sure to take some nice pics of the swinger soon..

  • ^^^that thing is cool as hell. I would be deeply tempted if I hadn't just jumped on the new guitar train.

I picked up one of those Jaguar Players with the humbucker and the single coil. I'm pretty sure for 95% of Jaguar players this is sacrilege but for what I do - one third delicate post rock plucks, one third utterly absurd sludge metal, one third surf - it's perfect. Got it in Star Wars Rebel orange too.

I think a mint green pickguard would like great with that, what do you reckon?

  • I like the black! Mint green could work too though.

I've always fancied a Capri Orange Strat with a black pickguard and a rosewood 'board.

  • Capri Orange is such a great colour! Looks like a fun guitar!

Meanwhile I'm still in the midst of the great gear reshuffle... I've just advertised my PRS Custom 22 for sale (the one I had refinished by Rich in Wales) and I've dropped my Gibson Les Paul Classic P90 off to finally get the headstock stuck back on. I've also ordered a Deluxe style pickguard for the Squier Master Series Thinline Telecaster and I'll be fitting some Charlie Christian pickups into that then.

Next move is to hopefully acquire a Lowden F-22 once the PRS sells and then start saving up for a Collings I30-LC... I have however just spotted a 1988 Epiphone by Gibson Sheraton which is a bucket list guitar for me so I may have to indulge in some man maths (or hurry on and get the PRS Tremonti SE I've been meaning to sell rewired and advertised for sale)...

  • That orange is so nice. I've been looking quite a lot at the Yamaha BB series basses for something a little different but not too far away from my Fender Precision, but seeing the Player Jaguar Bass in that orange is quite a tempting alternative.

  • I would have gotten that orange Jag bass but I’m not so into the colour of the pau ferro board. Ended up getting the silver one with maple board and putting a black pickguard on it.

  • Monty's Montypresso is great at bringing a bit of life into some of those paler non RW or Ebony boards...

  • Yeah highly recommend this stuff!

  • I've heard it works a treat on laurel but that the grain on pau ferro is a lot tighter and it doesn't take the colour so well - I haven't tried it though.

  • Might be tempted.
    Have sent a dm.

    Edit, scratch that. Don’t need.

  • Many months after posting here - I had my first bass lesson last week and was ace! Made a lot of progress in just that one hour and have just block-booked another four lessons.

It is exactly what I was after - someone in person to help spot issues with technique, give a bit of structure and accountability, as well as start to stretch my skills and learn new songs and theory.

Have started on a reminder of pentatonic scale box shapes to get more confident working up and down the neck.

  • Finally found a decent YouTube video with Luke McQueary (He’s had a haircut since…)
