I think it looks great as-is, have never seen a set neck Squier HH thinline.

Looks like a cool guitar.
Option C: Fill the dings, order some cans of nitro and try finishing it yourself.
That’s what I’d do. In fact I’m sitting at home right now waiting for some cans to be delivered. It’s easier than most people think, although you do need to be really methodical, and very careful about things like humidity, temperature, face-masks and ventilation.

Would I be absolutely bonkers to get the incredible man in Wales who refinished my PRS to refinish it or should I just leave it be?
No! Send it to Rich!
Bound guitars look great painted - (any of the surf colours ftw). Is it normal for those not to have a bolt on neck?

I've done a nitro finish on a couple of my guitars, I don't think I'd do it again. Unless you want to do it for the experience, or really enjoy finishing, it's 100% not worth the money not to get Rich ("The Welsh Paint Wizard") to do it. I think a sunburst telecaster body in nitro was £140 when he did one of mine.
Mine took ages, needed a lot of sanding and the finish was only 'ok'. I'm actually thinking of getting Rich to refinish one of them.

I spoke to him today actually and it would be £220 for the refinish as it's set neck but to make matters worse I'll be passing by his neck of the woods at the weekend so I can drop it off to him...
I was thinking of going for an 80s Telecaster Elite style burst...

I've had my fill of refinishes at the moment and I don't really have a warm space for it coming into winter so no chance until the weather picks up some time next year now!

Is the grain nice enough to benefit from a transparent sunburst? it's quite a few pieces innit? I like the solid surf colour idea. Painted headstock ftw as well?
-
• #12209
I had actually given some thought to going for an opaque burst kind of like this one where all of the colours are painted!

I'd be tempted to leave it as is. Looks decent & it's nice having a guitar that's been bashed about a bit, means you don't feel sad when you add another scrape!

Leave it, build it, play it.

Half of me says do a number on it and go cherry sunburst a la Les Paul and the other half says leave it exactly the way it is... It's very handsome, I'd probably leave it and build it up with some nicer parts with the money you've saved...

90's crustpunk stickerjob.

I've already got a nice pickup set for it and some new tuners and a new bridge on the way so I'll rebuild it and get reacquainted with it and see if it warrants a refinish next year maybe, it is lovely as it is but it looks better in the pictures than in real life so I think the refinish might be inevitable but no rush.
I'm definitely leaning towards a Les Paul-esque burst though.
I would also like to have the opportunity to fill in the pickup ring holes and direct mount the pickups...

your ol' uncle larry nailing it tonight.

Lease the stickers? 😚

Ah, you've already got pups... I would be tempted to go alternative universe '72 Thinline (Deluxe) with a set of boutique and super spendy Wide Range Humbuckers... Something a bit different for your stable... ☺️
The more I look at it, the more I like it...
Obvs needs a Bigsby too... 🤪

So since buying a 'nice' acoustic guitar that really does it all for me, I've been thinking about the electric. I've got a PRS SE EG from 2004 which I bought new, and it's the only one I've ever owned. It's 'fine', and was nicer than the equivalent Squiers etc at the time, but I could definitely be tempted to change to something that feels a bit more 'me' if I can get enough for it.
Any ideas what it's worth? Generally good condition, very little wear. I've checked Reverb/eBay but there don't seem to be many around/they don't seem very trustworthy prices.

Not sure to be honest dude. The real question is... what NICE guitar are you going to replace it with?

• #12220
I didn't even know you -could- sell a guitar before buying another one, might try that next time...

I'm in the unusual position of being really happy with my current set-up. I'm back in smit with my Tele, Riviera and my SG, they all do their thing brilliantly and I don't want to change anything on any of them.
My new pedal board is great and i'm really happy with what's on it and how it sounds and I'm loving my amps and the way they play with my pedals. Any of my guitars into a Barber Tone Press and the Nobels ODR-1 and the Holy Grail reverb into the SF Champ on about 3 is a very happy place.

Ha, that depends on what the old one is worth, doesn't it?
I used to be really into Strats (hence having this PRS - it was the closest I could get in the local music shop back then). Now I'm old, I like the idea of a Telecaster - tried some kind of American one once, but I don't think I can justify that cost. Probably a vintera or one of those Mexican roasted neck + custom shop pickup jobbies? I'd probably have to go and try some, though. I've not really played much to know.

There's one on Reverb at the moment for €650. They're actually rather desirable and very good guitars, I'd want to have my mind made up about the replacement before I'd sell that one...
Usually I'd argue against it but it could be worth taking it into your local shops to see what they'd give you for a trade in and try out some Telecasters while you're there? If you decide to sell it privately I'd absolutely recommend picking up a Japanese Telecaster, they're incredibly well built, better than Mexican and pretty much on par with American but with lower prices.

Quick qualifier on CIJ Fenders. They can be a strange mix - extremely high quality build and finish (at least as good as US made), but with mediocre electronic components, wiring and pickups. My CIJ Jazz Bass is as nice a bass as any I’ve ever held, but could certainly do with a new wiring harness. I’ve already upgraded the pickups.
This is a common theme with other people I know who’ve had CIJ Fenders - a few sensible electronic upgrades makes them unbeatable.

There's a couple on ebay for £440 both from Japan. None of them sold. Worth keeping an eye on but I suspect that the "true" value is likely a bit lower.
If you just want shot of it, i'd list it a bit lower and pocket the cash - but that's just what I do. If I make a decision that want something sold, I'd rather give a buyer a good deal and get the readies in the man-maths fund than hang on for ages trying to eek out a deal at the top of the market.
I just took a Seymour Duncan Dimebucker and '59 out of it to strip off the bad respray. It's actually a proper nice guitar to play!
Edit: I've ordered new tuners (one was broken, got some Schaller F-Style 70s on the way) and a bridge for it (wish.com providing the goods for a big beefy Badass-esque offering) and I'm going to reassemble and play it for a bit before making any hasty decision on refinishing...
