That’s a beast of a bridge! Neck dive won’t be an issue.
-
• #10953
It surely won't! I've done a rudimentary photoshop to hide the bridge's true identity when I posted it on Instagram but it's an 8-string bridge!

First time they've all been out at the same time, amazing really... Jag lives in the front room, the acoustics will have to stay under the bed and I'm ready to sling the electric mandolin in the sea...

I wish that were in my house...

It's a bit excessive, now they're all out I can see where I've gone wrong in my life...
I should've bought more when I had the opportunity... 🤭

Nice. Very nice.

I massively don't have space for any more at the moment, stupid old building means I've only been able to hang one on a wall, and I got rid of my 5x stand when we moved in. One day though...

I have a Gordon Smith GS2 with 2 humbuckers. I always play with split coil on a Fender Princeton, I just prefer single coil sound, but I've never quite been happy with the split coil sound.
I don't know anything about pickups, what single coil sounding options are there which fit in a humbucker cavity?

You can get some P90s that are designed to fit a humbucker routing. P90s can be a bit fatter sounding and hotter than your average SC though.

Is there such a thing as humbucker sized Jazzmaster pickups? That would work...

There we have it, good find.

Just been reflecting one of my favourite rig rundown tropes where the loyal guitar tech confirms or adds to the hype around a famous guitarist's superhuman abilities.
Was reminded of it the other day when Neil Young's tech claimed that Neil could identify the exact voltage at a venue from the sound of his amp.
Oh, Neil's tech also claimed NY's disappointingly un-macho pick thickness preference was in fact essential, because "if he used a thick pick he'd RIP THE STRINGS OFF".
Arf.

So I'm shopping for strings for the first time in about 8 years (I'm weird and stock up on spares like that, and I stopped playing for ages so I've only just got through what I had at home). Has something changed recently? The number of options is mad, and you can get 8s?!

Surely when going for a big bend on the top E you'll just flick it off the other side of the fretboard. Don't kids want callouses these days?! yells at cloud

I tried 0.8s a few times, doesn't Billy Gibbons use them?
They just exploded everytime I picked the guitar up...
D'Addario NYXL are supposed to be outstanding.

Billy Gibbons uses 7’s. Only on his dedicated slide guitars does he go for the heavy 8’s.
I just switched to 9’s after a lifetime of 10s and 11’s . Should have done it years ago. Still have 10s on some things, bit on the right guitar, lighter strings make you fly!

Billy G is still one of my all time favourite guitarists. Shame there’s so little footage of his 70s heyday. The first three albums... the riffs, the feel, the swagger, the tone and the solos. Love I love it love it.
Worth saying that dusty hill is badass as well. Great moves for a big guy. Solid as anything and subtle with his choices. Clearly a better singer than BG. Dude.
The drummer was always dogshit though and has been getting steadily worse since about 1980. He looks awful and sounds worse. Bleached hair, shit sunglasses, cop moustache, a million toms, leather gloves and black sticks is never a good look. He’s been dragging along playing basic blues barely in the same bar as the rest of the band on every live video I’ve seen. Horrible

Wild. I love a bit of Billy Gibbons, even tried using a coin for a pick for a while when I was 15, had no idea about the crazy light strings.
I haven’t played 9s since i was a kid but maybe I’m just doing it wrong

The drummer was always dogshit
...but it's funny 'cause his name is Frank Beard and... y'know...
... I'll get my coat.

I use Hybrid Slinky on Fenders, which are like 9s on the top and 10s on the wound strings. 9 / 11 / 16 / 26 / 36 / 46. But that is purely decades of habit. I probably ought to try heavier strings at some point. I used 10s on the Revstar when I had that.
Bronco modifying is going rather well! I think my relationship with guitars has levelled up to my relationship with cycling whereby I get far more satisfaction from tinkering than actually riding/ playing these days :)
