  • Wow - that looks awesome.

  • I'd definitely recommend - amazing quality/spec for the price, even new.

I thought it might take some adjustment, coming from a Jaguar, but it's immediately comfortable.

  • that's fucking mintox. great shape. never been a fan of wood finishes, this being an exception.

  • I bought a flat top Epiphone LP a couple of months ago and played quite a few in the run up to buying it and all of the fingerboards were of a similar dark brown colour none were particularly orange.

  • Good to know, the laurel colour seems to be more consistent than pau ferro is.

  • That looks amazing

  • Looks great. Gives me flashbacks to a korina Flying V that was always hanging in the local musical instrument shop when I was at school... owner was even nice enough to let us play it at lunch break sometimes.

  • I guess we'll have to wait and see, can always stain it if it looks awful... The YouTube reviews look pretty promising, solid sounding guitar for not very many bux...

  • When I got my Jaguar, the second choice guitar I decided against was a non-trem korina Jackson, so I have similar feelings!

  • Think I need to hang up my hang ups… I just always liked rosewood and I'm old and I don't like change. If it looks like it looks in the pics, it's a non-issue.

  • Ha, yeah, I remember at the time I thought there was something about seeing a pointy guitar in a "plain" wood finish that was a kind of cool and unexpected contrast… I dig it. The gold hardware is a nice touch too.

  • Thanks for the tips on the Blackstar HT amps. There’s a HT1 down the road from me for £70! How often do valves need replacing?

  • When they go rattly, microphonic or stop working. If they're working and aren't making weird noises, just play until you need to address an issue. Depending on abuse levels, it could be years.

Alternatively you can change them whenever you fancy tinkering about with trying new ones.

When i played out several times a week i'd change tubes all the time. Now i'm just a home player I tend to retube with decent quality glass when i get a new amp, keep whatever was in there as spares and forget about it. My Champ hasn't needed a tube changed in 10 years.

  • I left it thirty years before I changed the power tubes on my Twin... Didn't sound any different when I did!!

  • just ordered a Ditto looper. I had ordered the new one but the in-stock date kept going back and I wanted to have a play before the end of the worst christmas holiday in living memory. Plus is was only £75 vs £110 and i'm not sure how much use i'd get out of the extra features anyway.

  • ^^heh! yeah. I've read reams of guff about "tube tasting". I'm sure there are differences but i'll never realistically be able to A/B them so it's all academic. For me, the value in better quality stuff is it doesn't crap out and start making nasty noises after a few weeks.

If you want to change anything, this is the place: https://www.watfordvalves.com/

  • I bought a set of valves from them for my AC15 because (I thought) it was crapping out. Turned out it wasn’t the amp, it was my tuner pedal giving up the ghost. The new valves sound nicer, at least.

  • The Angus Young rig rundown is eye opening, he has a full time amp guy maintaining this cache of dozens of Super Lead heads. The valves get changed every 2-3 shows.

  • Ooh, new Angus Young gear content!! Will watch straight away!

  • no pedals - but about a million quids worth of kit and the roadiest roadie in roadiedom.

  • I watched that yesterday! mental. what was it, nine 100w heads? front of house is one backstage and another into 2x12 iso cab. The rest (seven full stacks!) are cranking on stage.

  • I think it's years old but the mention of frequent valve changing reminded me of it!

  • i love roadies. my next door neighbour is a retired roadie. he's fucking ace. he's got a connection for EVERYTHING.

  • He's an engineer really. He toured with soft machine and that lot for years then he was the front of house sound guy at the Astoria for 10 years. he also did the sound at the first ever Reading festival. He looks exactly like you imagine he does.
