  • Lakland Joe Osborn 5 String, Ampeg Dan Armstrong ADA4 Plexibass & My favorite bass - my Ernie Ball Musicman Stingray 4.

  • Got a glass slide recently. I'm fucking useless with it. Useless!! Anybody here use(d) one? Any tips?

    What problems you having?

As a general rule. Slide sounds much MUCH better in an open tuning and after raising the action of the guitar some

  • That Dan Armstrong plexi bass is awesome! Old one or a reissue? Always had the six-string version on my Guitars I must own one day list... Just like Keef and Cyril Jordan used to play... :]

Yo. I once had an afternoon's lesson with a really well known 80s session bod and he played slide in standard tuning really nicely. The best tip i got off him was the importanace of muting *behind *the slide, as well as all the notes you're not playing in front of it. Cuts out all those atonal ghost notes and mess. I've never really got on with slide though to be honest.

I really hate the way that unless you're really good, most people fall into the hackneyed swampy blues 1-4-5 clichés that combination of open e and a slide seems to suggest. But some of my favourite guitar parts of all time are slide parts. When it's done well it's the most spine tinglingly amazing sounds there is. Good luck with it.

That Lakland is so lush!! I'm currently torn between these three as I'm just going to trade my Ibanez Prestige as I'm not using it at all and can't shift it for what it's worth...

  • My sitting-in-the-front-room-trying-to-be-Alex Chilton-guitar, '62 Silvertone... No case, unfortunately... Those are my amps, never got 'round to getting a 2x10 cab built for the Solton... It sounds like the world's best 50W Hi-Watt... Crushing tone... The Fender's a 135W JBL equipped Twin Reverb... I often stand in front of the mirror naked playing Jet Boy by the NY Dolls through this... I'll stop there... Not gonna get my guitars out from under the bed... :]

I think I want the white standard...

  • never got 'round to getting a 2x10 cab built for the Solton...

DIY!! Not that difficult to make and rather satisfying! Also allows you to have green vinyl covering if you so please etc...

  • forgive messy room, fender classic 60's strat, and vox pathfinder 15r amp.

basic amp but much better (i.e. doesn't rattle) than the peavey vyper i returned.

  • Dudes, before i go to classifieds. I thought i'd just give a shout to see if anyone's interested in some gear i'm thinking of selling.

    1. 2004 ish, black les paul studio wt gold hardwear. good/top condition wt original case never gigged, bedroom porn.
    2. 80's Kramer American Baretta white wt pointy headstock and original case flyod etc.
also in very good condition (almost mint) no rust on floyd etc!
    3. Fender 30. Tube amp wt spring reverb, limited run in 1980 only. little bit like a mini twin reverb.
    4. Dunlop whawha, again very good condition rarely used.

Drop me a line if anything catches your eye and i'll sort pics etc.
    Cheers

  • Kramer Baretta FTW!!!! I really shouldn't though... :[

  • Hey sniffy, got pics of that Fender 30? I've never heard of them before.

Splurged on some Sidis at the weekend so a guitar is going to have to go.

  • @dooks yeah, will take some pics & post later for you. they are quite hard to track down for some reason.

  • Cheers feller.

Just uploaded some pics of the strat that's going on Gumtree today. You can see them in my profile: http://www.londonfgss.com/members1680-albums763.html

I won't post it in classifieds here as it's a bit off topic, but if anyone knows of someone who might be interested feel free to PM me! It's an early/mid 90s Mex strat. Neck's a bit worn but nicely set up, plays and sounds great. Put new saddles on at the weekend and it'll come with a foam case.

EDIT: just posted in gumtree: http://www.gumtree.com/london/13/45451513.html

  • Hmmm... Sounds like an interesting little amp...

  • Just had this ESP through the workshop. Came in with a hideous multicolour flame paintjob, shit pickups (one hum, one single in the neck)

So - re route for EMGs and install.
Re-finish in a nice ice white.

    Much more usable!

  • Fine work sir, looks like a very tasty job on a rather tasty guitar!

    Opinion on this please...

Would I be fool to leave the custom finish on this guitar as I'm planning to trade it in... Personally I think it's a great finish and suits the guitar very well but would it detract from the value in the eyes of a shoppe? I know it ought to but it's very well done and tidy and looks good...

It won't be too hard to remove as it's just done with a bit of varnish, you can see it wearing off from my arm already and marker...

It ought be like this in original guise...
