  • Fuck fuck fuck. Found out why the cigars were late.

    WTF!!!!!!
    Thats fucking outrageous!!
You ever hit with this before?
Let us know how you want to proceed.

  • This has happened once before and is why I'm very careful about my vendors. The customs fee is ridiculous, currently at 173 GBP per kilo for cigars.

This was an order from a different vendor than before because he had cheaper prices. I had used him before, but have had some issues with customer service so wasn't one I was currently using. I'm kicking myself now.

I'll be out of pocket for the order as I'm not going to pay that customs. I'll get a partial refund eventually from the vendor but that will be another month or so, and only partial.

This group buy will not happen. I'll do more later but I need to rethink my system.

  • Mate i am happy to cover my cost - no reason you should be out of pocket

  • i dont know how to smoke a cigar without being sick

Well, you're in the wrong place then.

Dale, what a run of bad luck buddy. Hopefully it's bright times from here on out.

We got the Cigar event on Tuesday (I still need to send you the details), that'll cheer you up!

  • Guys, I'm refusing the package because it would more than double the costs of the cigars. I'm going to be out some but I hope to minimise that and chalk it up to a learning experience. I won't be using this vendor again.

I'll let you all know when another split will be and how we'll proceed.

  • No probs D.G
Should organise a Sat smoke to commiserate

  • Well, you're in the wrong place then.

    Ha! WAC

First step is not inhaling. Try mild ones to start, Monte, Diplos, Sancho Panza, HdM etc. Then see if you enjoy it; if you don't then stop. If you do, explore more.

Definitely looking forward to some more smoking sessions. This has been an annoyance and I will change my methods, but it should just end up as a learning experience.

I'll be doing another buy soon. Will set something up but it might be different to what we have been doing.

  • fancy a drink and a smoke this lovely afternoon?
I have one Short left, then I need to buy more.

My colleague's father lives in Cuba. I'm going to see if I can put an order in for Sancho Panzas.

  • I just had a Sancho Panza Belicosos today, very nice

  • Stuck at work till 1030 tonight,
I will be having a cheeky Quintero panatella tomorrow arvo if the weather remains good, probably just have a cognac with it.
For a cheapo smoke I find them pretty good!

  • Bad news, Dale.
You will be out of pocket anyway, even if you refuse the parcel. I'm broke at the moment, but I can add something extra to the next order and buy you drinks.

    +1

  • Dale, I've been waiting for you to post up a little expose on the last cigar event we attended... get on it lad!

Jamie wore a dark grey dress shirt and fitted trousers. His cologne was musky. Our hands brushed as we reached for our cognac and there was a palpable frisson...

The cognac was lovely but I have little experience with cognac so it might have been wasted on me. The cigar has a lot of potential. It's a big cigar and we smoked one around 10-months old. I would buy a box, but I wouldn't smoke them for a few years. Mine had a strong ammonia flavour at the start which indicates that it is very young and still fermenting and aging. The last 1/3 showed some flashes of brilliance and made me think that in 5 years this will be a top grade cigar.

I do want to buy some Juan Lopez now as I've always liked them and actually have none in my humidor now. It's on the buy list but I will probably seek out a JL #1 rather than this regional edition at the moment.

    All MHO etc

  • The first part of that expose is nothing but fact though.

I was overly excited by the prospect of this cigar, and when I was passed one I wasn't dissappointed. Excellent construction, IMHO of course, though mine did start to fall apart a bit towards the end (Dale continually, and loudly blamed this on the way I was smoking said cigar - but this is just because he considers himself a flash git, and is in fact, just a git). It was definitely a noice smoke, though I agree with Dale, it could've done with some aging. It was also the first I'd tried from the Juan Lopes line, and although I don't see the line becoming one of my residential favourites, it's definitely one I would like to further explore.

  • so if you dont inhale the smoke what on earth do you do with it? that is the question that always pops up in my mind everytime someone says "dont inhale" while I nod in agreement. The internet, my last refuge, is the only place I can ask these questions.

Savour the taste in your mouth. Like a good wine the cigar smoke has subtilities and devolps as you smoke the cigar. Shit cigars taste like shit. Good cigars need not cost a fortune. There are decent honduran, dominican and nicauraguan cigars out there for good prices.

  • I tend to inhale into my mouth and as I exhale I send a maybe 50% of it through my nose. Our sense of smell contributes massively to what we taste. Doing this allows me to pick up a lot of nuances.

This is also why I don't like smoking in the wind or in a drafty place. A lot of the flavours are lost if the smoke is just blown right away.

I like a quiet place to enjoy my smokes if I am on my own, I hardly smoke over winter as its to cold/windy/wet outside and I have small children so no smoking inside.

I loved the smoking ban as I am an ex ciggy smoker but the down side is no where to go for an indoor smoke away from home.
(cigar smoking forumites correct me if they know of any regular venues please)

  • Fuckers. The vendor is not working with me at all so I'm out for the entire order.

    Caveat fucking emptor.

I'm more than a bit pissed about this.

  • No fucking way! Surely that is horribly illegal.

I'm sure you've tried bro, surely there's something that can be done. Can't you call him, and talk about repeat business etc...?

Mate if you are out for the whole lot, that is FUCKED UP!

  • It's the vagaries and risks associated with buying online. There are a lot of charlatans and fraudsters hawking cigars online, and while these guys are legit, their customer service blows. I will never order from them again.

The fine print regarding customs fees is fairly standard, but good vendors allow you to return the package to sender and have a mulligan. These guys clearly can't be arsed and value a one-off £300 deal to ongoing business. So fuck 'em, they get no more of mine.

I do blame myself. I had issues returning a moldy box from my first test order with them, and while that was finally resolved, I had placed this second order before realising how shit their service was.

  • Just got a box of 10 Honduran Piramides style cigars form a friend from spain, never had a Honduran cigar. I will reserve judgement but my hopes are not very high at the moment though the construction looks decent (sure they are machined) ring guage of approx 42, 6inch lngth. Light maduro wrapper, pretty thin though.
When the weather gets better I will report a taste.
My friend is very budget concious so even though I have given him a favs list he tends to come back with much cheaper alternatives.
    These were £20 for 10!
I will edit with brand (cant remeber!) and see if I can pop a couple photos on.

  • I've had some good Honduran cigars. And if you're looking for bargains then Nicaragua and Honduras are where you should be looking.

I like Cuban cigars, but I'm not about to say that they're aren't good ones elsewhere. Hope you enjoy them.
