If you want a decent route to Colchester watch out for the Clacton-on-sea ride as that will go past it

Hope the weather's like this tomorrow morning.
The route to Rainham is really confusing at the start because it goes through a bit of East London that I don't think is on google maps. The second bit is fine, so I'm going to go check out the first bit this afternoon to make sure I know how we get onto the route so hopefully I won't get us too lost.
I'm probably going to do this one fixed cos my road bike needs a bit of tweaking.
also I'm going to post about this on some other cycling forums unless anyone has any objections.

Hi Ladies,
I'd be interested. How long are the rides? -
• #40
I picked up this thread from the CCC web-site. As a woman cyclist, I would be very annoyed if someone set up men only rides. I dislike discrimination in any form.
-
• #41
Thanks for your imput, but there are some woman who feel differently, hence the idea to have one that is women only.
Good luck in whatever you do in the future.

Is this going to be a club run type ride? If so its probably wise to make sure everyone understands how to ride in a bunch before you set off (bridging gaps, calling out cars, no halfwheeling etc.) The Paragon guidelines are excellent for this.

I was thinking about that, actually. Good call, thanks for the guidlines. I'll print them and bring them with to the cafe.

Just like there are many men-only rides, there should also be women-only rides. When riding with faster men, women sometimes don't enjoy the speed, and quite apart from the speed, I'm told that sometimes women dislike the atmosphere of a ride that is heavy on men. I don't know where you get the impression from that there could be discrimination in setting up this ride?

The point of this group is to make cycling more diverse in its entirety. While leisure rides e.g. those organised by LCC have a fairly equal male to female ratio, slightly faster club runs have far more men than women. This can be intimidating for some female cyclists - myself included - because it makes it all a bit weird, unless you like being the minority in a situation.
This group is aiming to address that and to encourage women to cycle. It is not aiming to discriminate or exclude men.
But of course, you are welcome to your own opinion
Anyway here's tomorrow's route, 's only 30 miles in total
http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=3140949Just to warn you it goes down a towpath, through the Olympic construction site (though that bit's pretty cool, right past the stadium) and down East Ham High Street. But the bit out past Barking Creek is quite neat, all big flat roads with hardly any traffic and lots of wind turbines and the stench of the Thames.

Sounds great
By the way, this is is a cool site for mapping, they have a cycle map http://www.bikehike.co.uk/mapview.php and choose at the top OSMCYCLE.
I can't export gmaps into the Garmin so I will be sans map.
I'm not 100% about tomorrow so if you don't see me at the cafe I'll probably be still in bed :)

That looks great Tricity, good work.
I'm totally excited for tomorrow, 30 miles sounds like a fantastic start.

Last minute up date,
here is the map to the cafe. Also won't be able to print out the paragon info, so have a look before you head out tomorrow!

Really enjoyed the ride today - low turnout (well, me and Nhatt!) but given that the North London Road Riding Ladies' Club has only existed for 3 days and it's a bank holiday, that's not too bad. Think we did about 35 miles in all as I only mapped to Rainham before and the visitor centre at Rainham Marshes is actually in Purfleet - nice distance, no mechanicals and really nice weather for it, apart from a bit of a headwind on the way back.
Looking forward to the next one - I'm out for next Sunday as I've got to do a charity run but intend to be there every Sunday after that.
