  • I picked up this thread from the CCC web-site. As a woman cyclist, I would be very annoyed if someone set up men only rides. I dislike discrimination in any form.

But you're fine with women only rides? :S

  • well done u2.

a route i do into essex is out along the b184. it is pretty flat / rolling. and it is easy to remember. u can turn to suit.

    leytonstone.
    chigwell. 20k.
    abridge. 25k.
    ongar. 40k.
    fyfield. 50k.
    great dunmow. 60k.
    thaxted. 70k.
    saffron walden. 80k.
    cambridge. 95k.

i think some friends of mine (ladies) will be up for joining for you. i will tell them about it.

Cheers! That sounds great. My route knowledge (and sense of direction) is absolutely terrible - practically the only ride I ever do is Cambridge via the a10 - so hopefully these rides will improve that as well as my speed/skills.

  • I'm thinking to do a rec ride on saturday, but it looks like St Albans, there and back for next week.
It's about 25 miles each way, so if anyone doesn't feel like doing the back then they can take a train.

I really enjoyed today, next week should be great.

  • As requested by Nhatt, here's a possible Essex route:

    [ame]http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/58-mile-Essex-loop-via-Blackmore-clockwise[/ame

    [/ame]

It's 58 miles, so slightly longer than requested, but a good run.

The caff in Blackmore is a little difficult to find, but well worth going, as it's quite lovely. I can describe in more detail how to find it.

  • This sounds brill.

First Sunday I'll be in London is the 20th, so count me in for then on.

  • Hiya. Count me in please - however are you okay with some who is very new to cycling (riding only for 10 weeks), still very slow and doesn't ride a fixie or single speed (yet)?
My longest ride (survived) so far, 40 miles, daily commute is varies but approx 40km plus one long weekend ride per week.
I understand if I need to be ejected.

  • No worries, we all start somewhere.

I don't know what to do about this week, Tricity is busy and I agreed to go mtbing a few months ago and only remembered now.

Want to give this week a miss, or does someone what to stand up and agree to lead?

  • Let me be the first to say........ sexist!

  • I don't think you are, James.

  • No worries, we all start somewhere.

    Yay!

  • Sorry I didn't make it last Sunday. I ended up spending the who day visiting different houses and viewing rooms. I'll try and make the next one (assuming that I've found somewhere to live- no mean feat in london it seems).

Also, my experience in riding clubs is that they can be overwhelming macho- you even need to look at some of the posts on this site to realise that this can be the case. So good on you Nhattattack for starting this.

  • My lovely girlfriend lizzie(who isn't nerdy enough to be on here) has been looking for some people to ride with regularly. Will put her onto this thread.
She'll be on the leaving east london ride this weekend on a purple/white cilo racer so say hello and invite her to join your girly riding hijinks if anyone on here is going along.

  • NO ride today folk, see you next week! I'm off to throw myself down some hills!

  • I work half the sundays of the month, but when i'm off, i could be up for this.

  • [quote=tricitybendix;908655]I am excited!

We could do a ride to Hillingdon on October 3rd if people are up for it... there's a race day on. The 'October Festival of Racing' in fact. It's a decent ride there and back (somewhere between 20 and 25 miles from Dalston) and should be good fun. Plus people could race if they want... you need a BC licence but the organiser is encouraging novice ladies to take part. I'm happy to sort out route and lead if people are up for it.

Hey. Just checking that the womens race at Hillingdon is all Cats..? I thought I saw somewhere that it is only cats 1-3. If I am wrong I am def up for doing it. Hope you had a good ride today, I will try and make it out next Sunday.

All cats yep, the guy organising it told me that because it is all cats there will be strong racers there but he's hoping for a few fourth cats.

  • here's something for you all to try:

  • awesome.

Be good to still do a ride that day... we could go south into Kent somewhere and come back via Herne Hill for 1pm to watch the Omnium, maybe.

  • Hello All!

Looks like this sunday will be the St Albans ride! It has been suggested that a better meeting point would be the Brick Lane Beigal place, because we would then be able to drink coffee before we go. Whoop!

So! The plan is to meet at Brick Lane at 0830 to leave for 9. We will see how the ride goes, we could go there and back or just there depending on how people feel. It's about 25 miles, I'm doing a rec ride with Corny (and anyone else who is interested) tomorrow, so I can post more details then.

Would it be silly to make a list to see who is up for this weekend?
    Of course it would!

    1.Nhatt

  • I'm in.

Though we may get some moronicism from morons on Brick Lane on a Sunday morning, being girls in lycra and all that crap.

  • Fair enough, let's see how it works out. Knowing that their will be coffee at the start is a big pull.

  • I'm provisionally in as well.

  • Darn ... you're coming up my way, I'd sooo love to cycle over to meet you in St A. Except I'm chock full of a DiveMaster Theory session that day ... and my bike is in Barnes ...

Ho hum. moving to Ealing in 6 weeks so rides will be accessible :-)

    Hell yeah!
