Imagine you're out for a quiet stroll in the foothills and one of those guys shoots past over your head... Seriously amazing, best squirrel suit vid I've seen...

But...
How do you actually learn how to do it?
No doubt the theory can be explained, but at some stage presumably you just have to jump off a cliff and hope you get the hang of it quickly enough that you aren't killed horribly on the jagged rocks below.
Seems risky.

jump out of a plane instead of off a pointy rock

The general wisdom is that you should have at least 1000 parachute jumps from a plane and 500 base jumps under your belt before even thinking about putting a wingsuit on. Then a few hundred jumps out of planes at 10000 ft to get the feel of the thing, then a few hundred base jumps with a wingsuit on so you get used to that, then a few base jumps with a wingsuit with a friend who you manouvre around to get your fine control up, then, maybe, try terrain proximity flying. The death rate is appaling tbh, just in the last year about 8 from the top guys in the world died. Doing what they love though so...

Like I thought. Risky.
I think I'll stick with cribbage.

Innit, roll on 2017 and proper VR goggles and VR GoPros or whatever and that'll be good enough for me
-
• #66196
Yeah, learning part is obviously a bit of a commitment.
There's a compilation of accidents on YouTube that I watched for some bizarre reason. It's not as disturbing as ISIS videos because they knew the risks and were having a laugh but still hard to watch.Anyway, back to the funny.

What does all that shit cost to do?
-
• #66198
Everything, by the looks of it.

Sky diving isn't as horrendously expensive as I thought it'd be when I looked into it a year or so ago. I think a couple hundred quid would have gotten you a few jumps. Place I looked at though said you had to be under 14stone n I'm 14 ½ so it went no further than looking at their website :(

They obviously couldn't be bothered to stock the Clydesdale canopies
