  • Yeah, it's from back when you were called Object.

    Oh wait....what's going on?!

  • Deja vu? The power of Cosmic3? Scary?

  • ha... how things have changed.

I was always called object. Why do people keep insinuating otherwise?

  • Ah I wasn't aware of that, no of course I don't intend to hijack the main court for newbie games. I'd rather not do it on a different evening though, as it does segregate it into two groups, it's better if people have the choice of both courts at the same time, so they can play a few newbie games, and a few normal games in the same evening.

In two weeks it will be another beginner session anyway, but maybe if we turn up next week hoping to use the second court, and see what happens, if it turns out that in the long run we won't have access to the second court, then we will have to come up with a different solution.

We will deffinetly not be able to have both courts every wednesday, in fact it's not often we do. Making wednesday's at newington a beginners night will make a lot of beginners turn up every wednesday expecting to play (just like last night) and with only one court on the go it will hijack the normal games.

Just have a beginners night on an other night or somewhere else. It won't encourage segregation because beginners are welcome and encouraged to play the normal polo nights anyway. And at least they will be guaranteed beginner games, rather than turning up at souths and getting thrown in on a fast/aggressive game.

At the moment Wednesday evenings are the only nights being played south of the river and the only time polo is played at newington. I don't want the dynamic that is there at the moment to change.

  • next saturday we should start using newington for all day play...

  • I don't want the dynamic that is there at the moment to change.

I'm still welcome, right? You miss me at souths, right?

Well, as I said, we'll try it. There is another beginner session next week anyway, so if there is only one court we won't do it again. Either way it looks like you will be having two South sessions a week soon.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I don't think having an entirely seperate session, possibly at the same time as a normal session at another location, is the way to go for a number of reasons, one being people at an intermediate level need to choose between one or the other, which will reduce attendance, and if we say have only 5 newbies turn up, if it's at the same location then a pro may be happy to join in.

A comprise might be having it at Mitcheson while a session is on at Downham, at least it wouldn't be so far between the two, if not enough turn up we can go to Downham, or get someone to join us, and people can go from one to the other.

I'm completely with Dave on this one, there are some players who only come to South Polo and saturating that with a massive influx of new players would be unfair.

London has enough courts and days to run a new player night without degrading one of the longest standing polo meets.

    +1

Just join in on normal polo nights, or if you want to have separate newbie nights chose another night/court

Not sure if this is a response to 'north polo' or not, but these are my reasons for wanting to start it up:
    1) the other polo courts aren't so convenient for me to get to
    2) the other polo sessions seem pretty busy
    3) i've never played before, and so I just want to spend as much time on the court as possible.

It's really not intended as a "beginners ghetto". everyone is welcome. if it's me practicing shooting on my own for 3 hours, that's cool. if it's a dozen people playing proper games, that's cool too.

    EDIT: haha at the tags!

No it wasn't a reply to that. I think your idea is a good one, as you are trying to set up polo in a new area, which will attract new players. And while it will be mainly beginners now, I don't think you are aiming it to stay a beginners session for ever. Or at least that's how I understood it.

Personally I will turn up to North Tuesdays rather than Downham for sure, I'll keep the sessions with the pros for weekends.

My suggestion isn't to play in a new area, just to have a permanent beginners session, where maybe the players won't be constant, but the skill level would be. If the Souths idea really doesn't work, or I would piss off a load of people by doing it, we can just do Beginners Mitcheson Thursdays until the light is gone and the pros turn up from Downham

  • Polo is awesome, let's play more.

  • i think there should def be newbies night, because as good as it is to have newbies, i love playing fast aggressive games... but as dave says, you guys are always welcome, but do it on a different night, and finding new courts is awesome, we all had to do it, you should too!

I think you should find some courts in Camden / KT . More courts = more polo.

  • a NE carpark/covered polo court would be acest.

  • a NE carpark/covered polo court would be acest.

I think I found one, will infor later this week

  • yeah ray, nice and long... should make for fast games. If only it was south!

  • This OT, but we need to find more courts. Mitch has user conflicts, as does Newington. Downham isn't lit, which leaves us with Broadway.

  • I'm still welcome, right? You miss me at souths, right?

Yeah, where were you last night?

It's okay though, we had Ali instead. My favourite team mate of the evening!

(edit: as well as ali w)

  • Broadway could do with an angle grinder...some concrete... fencing... and a good old sweep

what about sitting ducks home court ... Boleyn?

  • just with the angle grinder i will be happy, that fence is a death trap

  • what about sitting ducks home court ... Boleyn?

    its way too busy. :(
