Quick scout of google maps:
Malden Road - looks ideal (2 courts, lit?)
Clarence way/Castlehaven - looks too big
Dalby Street - looks too bigPM me about balls. I have orange (cold weather) and red (best ball most of the time).

there are far too many people at games these days to get much serious polo in.
100% agree

Well great we can then have North polo in the Camden area on Tuesday nights at a relatively easy level to start with, and Newbie Polo on Wednesday nights at the second Newington court.
Then everyone can step up for the weekend Polo and at their local midweek polo.

I have been scouring google maps and have plotted locations to check out in person. Most of the probably won't be suitable, but who knows. Feel free to add to the map:
What is the protocol for playing at a new place? Just rock up and play, see if anyone says anything? Contact the council, ask permission?

and Newbie Polo on Wednesday nights at the second Newington court.
The second court isn't all ways available (have to keep the locals happy), and the primary court will not turn into a newbie court. Obviously everyone is welcome to play but i'm not going to be spending the whole evening going easy as at the moment wednesdays seem to be the only day where i get a chance to play a decent amount.
Can we not have the beginners night on another evening?

Don't forget to start a "North Polo - Tues" thread or some such when you've found a location... I'm sure people will flock to you like seagulls to fish & chips.
Anyone feel like committing to all night polo at Broadway? The lights don't come on till late (10:15), but seem to stay on all night?!

Trial by fire (playing with "pros") is the best way to get good. On the other hand, there are far too many people at games these days to get much serious polo in. For this reason I think it is a very good idea for noobs to start their own sessions if they want.
Noobs should feel free to play at any game, but they should be encouraged to have their own nights if they want.

With reference to this and as it's only going to keep getting darker you should note that the "pros" have already been discussing using Newington more often that we currently do. -

Agree with Dave. We have been lucky the last two weeks with two courts available. Sometimes neither court is available, but we came to agreement with the local kids that we were only using it one day a week so I assume this is why they don't come down much on a Wednesday anymore. I don't think we should use this more regularly during the weekdays as we will risk losing it, especially playing at midnight!
Newbies - check out the london bike polo courts thread with a map with all the courts we've found/ find new courts/ or just join in with everyone else. I for one am happy playing with new people - more on my level and will definitely help improve my game. I can see why some of the really good players are keen to keep playing at their level and on the days/ locations they have been though.

Nothing is too big!

Yeah, more big courts like Mitchison would be good. There's one in Peckham, but really dodgy. I hear West polo's new court is big though.

what postcode are these in?
I looked at google maps when we were looking for a south court and couldn't find anything at all. We were lucky as we stumbled across the Newington court by accident one night which is newer than google maps :)

They are all Camden / Kentish Town / Chalk Farm area, which is mostly NW1. See the map for locations:

The new West court is an ok size - it could be a little bigger. Some of our older ones were definitely too big - although maybe that had a lot to do with everyone just following the ball and 'hit n hope' shots.
Malden Road is NW5

Ah I wasn't aware of that, no of course I don't intend to hijack the main court for newbie games. I'd rather not do it on a different evening though, as it does segregate it into two groups, it's better if people have the choice of both courts at the same time, so they can play a few newbie games, and a few normal games in the same evening.
In two weeks it will be another beginner session anyway, but maybe if we turn up next week hoping to use the second court, and see what happens, if it turns out that in the long run we won't have access to the second court, then we will have to come up with a different solution.
