Sometimes it takes a bit of guts to make your point.
You need to get to the meat of the arguement

BMI is a very blunt tool- for example every Olympic rower would count as obese by its measure.
However it works fairly well over an entire population, if you assume that the majority of the population are not Olympic rowers of course.
If you are essentialy a healthy 12 stone six foot male who happens to be carrying eight stone of fat around then it is going to have an impact on your joints, your ability to breath, lung displacement, renal and liver function etc.
GA2G- your argument seems to be that one can be both fat and healthy.
I would posit that this is untrue.
One can be fat and strong, or fat and able to perform specific tasks extremely well, but not fat and healthy.
The excess weight being carried by the morbidly obese can and does have an impact on the physical process' and systems of the body.
None of the above is a personal attack upon you and I do not want it to be seen as such.

emmeff, thats not nice. Those kids could die before 20 years old. Not a nice image at all.

got to admit, you have to admire the fat lipped one for pushing better diets in school meals and a push away from fast food, which IMO should be taxed far more heavily for it's packaging/transportation and use of poor ingredients to encourage people to buy local and fresh

Dammit, all that scientific stuff is a bit hard to swallow. Can you give us smaller bites?

Dammit, I don't feel personally attacked by you at all. You're too intelligent a person for that sort of thing. Those that wish to attack me personally, will do so later. I wouldn't mind them either, as in real life, those attacks would never materialise. Internet strength. An extraordinary phenomenon.

no its not nice- its a photo of some actual children that are unfortunate in the way they have been brought up.
Im dealing with what is.
And that sort of child can be avoided.
enjoy your lunches, and be happy. -

The BMI is a primarily useless tool, becaus of its overall lack of any accuracy. If you want to gauge someones physical condition or how fat they are, then you need bodyfat calipers and knowledge of how to use them properly.
Or better yet pay a visit to one of those body pod things to give you accurate visceral body fat readings, which have a greater effect on organ health for instance, than overall bodyfat levels. -

If I have a car with a powerful engine it can move a lot of stuff around.
For example I could drive around with approx 600 Kilos in the back of mine.
Would it drive? Yep, quite fast once it was up to speed.
Would it burn fuel insanely and wear out the tyres, suspension, steering rack etc much more swiftly than if the car only had to carry me? Yep.

Graham, are you psychic? How did you know that Alek Wek would bait me to bite?
I am indeed a huge fan of hers. Severe looks to some, but her richness of colour, and her smile mesmerize me.

That first photo is great, I hate the second one, everythin about it is great until you get to......The specular highlights in her armpits, they just look stupid, draw your attention away from her interesting face, and ruin the whole look of the photo for me......but then again, I am a photographic pedant and a photographer myself, other people might not care as much!
Really? Well it could be true. Who knows......
