thing is, i didnt realise i was doing it... and i think bill was a bit gentler on me.

I've also been guily in the past. Showboating too, as soon as I see a worthwhile climb I can't help myself.

Did it last Saturday on a nice quiet road in Surrey, I was further back in the pack than usual and a downward gradient so sped up, after I had passed the ride leader I heard her shout "NO" so I slowed back and rejoined the pack whilst the two others who had accepted the challenge sped past me and disappeared. I later realised Tash had been shouting "GO".

saying that i got completely schooled by Bill, it was after our recce... i saw a hill i went he did a sharp right half way up i got caught in a cycle path...schooled.

Depends what you want to do - go for a ride with your mates, and ride together, or pretend that you are trying to drop your principal rivals on the Koppenberg, ie show-boat. IMO, if you want to race, you should get a day-licence and do it for real at Hog Hill or Hillingdon, not on a friendly ride, otherwise you will mightily piss off those of us (ie me) who have actually fronted up and done some real racing.On the Rollapaluza club rides, we would designate one hill as the one to go for it on, usually the one out of Theydon Bois going back towards High Beach. Much more civilised.
