+1 just start posting cheaper/more basic stuff on the other thread and people will use that for polo bling and polo bargains.

+1 This thread is pointless

2 threads because the needs are different.
These people want free / cheap stuff and I didn't want to cram up the existing threads with freecycle frames and the like.
The more established players are interested higher end components as well as there are a few people wanting to set up their first bikes, so there is going to be an influx at the moment. It may seem pointless to you lot but not to the 'beginners'.

all it's serving to do is segregate beginners from other players more, making the barrier bigger, etc.

We need a WIcksie sub-forum...

• #1033
Also, why is it called "Beginners Polo Forum /" Is it a new forum?
I'm very close to just merging all this back into the ebay thread.

That's very dramatic.
They're different needs, it makes sense.
And why would more established people want an influx of stuff they're not interested in?

Not a new forum, no, it means 'forum finds'.

Joni, dont think that the more stablish players more expensive things, eveybody like some free or cheap

If you feel that that's what the other polo ebay thread has become then simpley start posting the stuff that 'beginners' are after in there and adapt it's current role. Not everyone who has been playing a long time is running bling bikes and could still be interested in more basic parts.
This isn't a personal attack or anything Joni but there seems to be a bigger and bigger divide growning between beginners and the rest of us. I think all the hard work you've put in to getting the beginners sessions going is ace and think it's a great thing to have going but at the end of the day we are all polo players and there really isn't much difference between me, you, the best player in london and someone who only picked up a mallet last week.

there are not different needs
more established people dont look that thread anyway, dont think for them

22t freewheels
http://www.freemanscycles.co.uk/product2.asp?product_id=1182&pname=Single%20Speed%20Freewheel%20(22T)
Those freewheels are shit. Dont buy them. I got one and it locked up on me before I'd even stuck the tyre on the wheel. Complete shit.

not drammatic, realistic, and efficient. This forum has too many threads already. I'm about to move it all. See you on the other side.

Mountain out of a molehill.
I've seen both sides and realised that there is a need. From my perspective of speaking to people at beginners, I think this would have helped.
Clearly you all know better then. -

Joni, just use this thread has much as you like for whatever you like, I will be backing you up

Clearly you all know better then.Joni's got a point here lads, if there are beginners saying that it would be good to have a separate thread for them to start off with getting gear, then maybe its worth having - or at least discussing a bit.

Tell them, they're nice people.Cant remember what brand it is, but now I have the shop I bought it from (couldnt remember which one, I just called them up instead of ordering online) I'll ring them up and post it back if they can give me another one or a refund.

Nothing obviously. But as I've said, there is going to be an influx of people wanting to get their bikes together so as a temporary measure we can all pool together and help each other out.
Again, as I've said, their needs are different and the stuff in here isn't relevant and the stuff that would have gone in the that thread wouldn't be relevant to here. This is all immaterial now.
Kevin, email Richard at
sales at freemanscycles . co . ukThey don't have the dicta ones in now so let me know which one you got.

I think it's all relevant, whether you've been playing since BITD or you've just started... Keeping things separate will only create a feeling of 'us' and 'them' that isn't healthy for anyone... Polo beginners aren't babies, they/we can figure stuff out for themselves...

What distinguishes a new player's bike from a not-so-new player's bike? I.e., what is it that makes their needs different and the stuff here irrelevant?
I played on any piece of crap frame I could find until 6 months ago (I had a Dawes Galaxy covered in rust and with a massive dent in the top tube [my second Galaxy as a polo bike?] which I probably asked for on this thread). I'm still using some cheap ass Stronglight road/touring cranks because they're 86 BCD (and I'm picking up a 10 quid pair of MTB cranks this eve - both of which were posted on this thread), I had a rubbish cheapo freewheel on until a couple of weeks ago (and only stopped using it because the affect the canal had on it). I was well up for getting my name on the list for those free BMX grips (posted on this thread).
And let's not even start to talk about James Brown's bike.
Not everyone who's been playing for a while only buys the blingest and best bits.

Joe I'm saying it's not relevant because the thread doesn't exist anymore. Hence this discussion is academic.
Mahoosive Schwalbes at keen price...
