i'm really looking forward to sunday. i'm hoping the rest of the gang will be up for a pint en route.
Lets do it.

i need to get a ride in this weekend. see how i'm feeling and what time i get to bed tonight, but i might be up for this.
so we're saying a medium- or a reasonable but fast pace? i'm not really that interested if it's a walking pace at 8 hours.
and atanz, is your number in the names and numbers thread?
-
• #54
Don't worry teddy, atanz doesn't look it, but he is a fast devil.
-
• #55
i'm not trying to be a dick. but i've ridden to brighton with a bunch of mates who don't ride distances regularly before, and it just annoyed me to the point where i didn't enjoy the ride.
-
• #56
teddy, yes fast please. slowish is not my game, but again if anyone is struggling of course we'll wait for them. unfortunately I don't have a mobile here in the UK. you can PM me your number and I'll write it down and I'll forward it to Hovis Brown.

can someone bring a 15mm spanner? would be much appreciated in case of a puncture - I somehow misplaced mine amongst my luggage.
-
• #59
Sorry, just checked, I don't have a 15mm spanner.
Will anybody be bringing a pump along?
-
• #60
yeah, will anybody?
-
• #61
I can bring a pump if nobody else is, just it's a frame mount and I'd need to take off my air horn to fit it in...
-
• #62
I have a tiny pump packed. But still no spanner :(
-
• #63
I can bring a spanner.
-
• #64
i'll have a pump. i can bring a 15mm spanner, but you'll have to carry it
i'm not bringing a lock, maybe we can buddy up on a lock?edit: you bring the spanner, efc (i won't need it; i'm riding my road bike)
-
• #65
i'll carry the spanner no prob.
-
• #66
i'll bring a pump, can bring a multitool, but like Teddy, i will also be lockless.
see you all at 9:30.
-
• #67
I’m not bringing a lock either, on the last Brighton forum ride we found a pub in the town centre with a beer garden we could take the bikes into so I think we could get by without.
-
• #68
Sounds good. No need for a lock
see you soon

well cheers guys, that was genius. things i learned today:
- i'm a faster rider than paul smith
- arioni k1: comfy for three hours. afterwards, torture
- don't discount the skinny guy
i got a puncture on the way home, btw. actually sliced through my rear tyre.

@teddy: we shouldn't have said "wow, nobody got a puncture on this ride" on the train back.
fantastic ride, gentlemen. had a really good time. things i learned:
- you can fix a sheared stem bolt with a bottle cage bolt
- garmins don't like croydon
- the first hill was surprisingly the worst.
big sombrero-size chapeau goes out to Yassim who showed up at Crystal Palace with a hybrid Ridgeback asking where we were going and the following us all the way to Brighton having never done that kind of distance before.
total ride time 3:33:23

thanks for the great ride mates. I was hoping i'd give the roadies a run for their money.
thanks hovis brown for your garmin navigation - looking forward to the stats!

total distance: 92.13
riding time: 03:33:23
elevation: 951m -

can i add to that (cuz if you don't post it on the forum, it didn't happen)
my top speed: 58km/h -- which is horrifying on a 6kg bike.
-
• #74
top speed 55.5km/h.
i also realised, that the 03:33:23 riding time was from my house, so i think we did it closer to 3:10:00 which sounds even more respectable.

i really need a computer on my bike... I would guess I was up there with teddy at 58 km/h. i must have been spinning at 160rpm on the downhills, shit! even some of the flat runs we were cruising about 40-42.
fun stuff!
I've tried adjusting my shorts once while on fixed... maybe that experience tells me crapping while riding is a bit of a chore.
cafe st. germain sounds like a great place to meet. looking forward to meeting everyone at 9:30.
