i got busted at the junction of essex road and islington high street a little while ago. they lurk there about once or twice a week at rush hour. i was so annoyed i got caught as i'd seen them the day before and made a mental note to not. even though i'd forgotten about them, i stopped, waited, waited some more, looked again saw no-one and nothing coming and set out across the empty junction. just as i pulled away i saw the (quite hot actually) policewoman stepping out from her hidey place to pull me over. i got the impression that she was almost as embarassed as me to be having to tell me off. i didn't argue. they took my details but let me off the fine. they're only doing their job an di appreciated that they weren't particularly being cocks about it.
although having said that they obvioulsy chose the spot as a popular RLJ location with a view to cathing more people rather than improving safety. the reason people jump those lights is due to the design of the junction being condusive to relatively safe light jumping (there's low foot traffic and a long section of the cycle where there's no reaon other than the red light to stop). if they really wanted to make a difference they'd stake out the cycle lane/ped crossing on st john street a bit further down.
hey ho.

I would actually give them money to catch the twats who jump the lights on the ped crossing on Theobalds Rd, opposite Bea's Tea Rooms. If I could watch, of course.

The real problems is the numpties who RLJ when it really isn't safe to do so. I've nearly taken out a few of them when I've got a green and they're in the way. I've also shouted at a few. Generally nodders.
Classic example yesterday - bog standard neon unipack with an arospok! Just after he'd narrowly avoided my path his chain actually broke! Karma.

I think I saw a couple of police officer on a bike hiding behind an alleyway near Clapham North tube right near a crossing, I think they're waiting for offender jumping a crossing and chase them down proper 70's style.
Sweet!

the unispok must be a new low in the world of idiot hipsterdom - a wheel that is worth more than the rest of the bike and yet both the wheel and the bike are utter shite

Cheers for the warning Festerban.
Anyone notice how quiet the roads seem this week? Summer hols have really kicked in.

The medication must be kicking in then. You didn't call them cunts...
Must spread Rep around before giving more to Platini!
Isn't this just a police quota filing exercise where they fine working people to hit targets to get bonuses, best way to do it is to criminalise some trivial offence and enforce it during rush hour.
Isn't it Sad that they don't sit on large junctions and watch the dangerous driving by HGV and cars that have the potential to KILL cyclists... i guess only a handful of cyclists get killed but 1,000s jump lights.. fkd up place this. fkd up!

I jump reds myself when it's safe to do so, it's not about that. I shouldn't even post on this topic, it makes me so angry - it makes me shout in the street.

MMm Dancing Sharkstar....
If it's a ped crossing i am at least 6' away and i acknowledge the people crossing with a nod and hand up but done safely, i have been crossing and riders have shot past forcing people out the way. if you are out with Kids or elderly relatives you soon get rage going the other way!

Was wondering what was going on. I saw loads of those cunts on their stupid mountain bikes by the Elephant yesterday. Half of em could barely ride a bike. They would have been completely unable to give chase if they had so required. Hopefully my dream of being pursued by a load of cops on bikes through the City may come true this week. Bring it on!

why is everybody in such a rush to get somewhere? is your arrival time that critical that you have to RLJ? just leave a few mins earlier, chill and save yourself £30.

Yes the iniquity of this is really fucked up, all thanks to The Evening Standard and Time Out et al getting a bee in their bonnet about cyclists bending the rules. What about Eilidh et al ? * Where's the fucking justice? When was the last time you saw someone getting stopped for phone use or ASL blocking or not indicating or all the other wanky selfish things drivers do. (<<No question mark as it's a rhetorical question. It never bloody happens.)
- Eilidh was mentioned in The London Paper yesterday (with reference to the LGV/cyclist film released yesterday). It really rankled that, as KTee contended, she was in NO WAY IN THE WRONG, yet the implication of the article was that cyclists need to be more careful. Not drivers.
