  • I'm with you ray, I'm setting up the website (i bought the domain last year but did nothing with it), and have already been chatting with mike about fixture draws, and how best make it work with 10/20/30 teams.

There's one idea, which people may hate, I really don't know. If there are many more teams than the last league, we could try to implement triple fixtures, where 3 teams show at a location, and all play each other. It would mean 3 fixtures are played in one session, thus turning things around much quicker. Each team would play 2 fixtures per session.

    A vs B, A vs C, B vs C.

    What do you think?

  • Liking the triple fixtures idea, the only problem i forsee is it becoming far more complicated if a team doesnt show...

  • If three fixtures are going to happen (3 hours), draws should probably be used, rather than golden goals.

  • Theoretically a great idea, but wouldn't it be an organisational nightmare? How hard was it getting two teams to play fixtures, would trying to organise a third too work?

Out of interest, would it be possible to just tell everyone they have to play everyone? Once two teams have played they put the result up and tick off one of the teams they have to play?

  • Can we do the league without the need for membership of the LHBPA or any subscription costs? Or sponsorship.

I believe it should be owned by the players and any money needed* should be raised by the polo league BBQs and donations.

*What is the money needed for other than a winners prize?

  • Winter BBQ's! :)

  • Khorn: No, people will be given their fixtures week by week, otherwise one team could play all the other teams at the beginning of the league, while other teams wait, and in the mean time, all the teams change their skill level. It's fairest to play when you're assigned to play.

Hops: Totally, we did the league before without membership of something that was really created to make it easier to run tourneys and get insurance (not the league). It is, and will remain owned by all of us

  • yeh screw the subcriptions, i like the idea of fund raising barbies, continental could sponsor though and everyone who enters league gets a tyre..? The idea or a schedule of games is better that leaving it up to others and i think more than 3 forfeits, should pull the team from the league.

3 hours on a winter weeknight aint gonna happen either..

    2 things:

    1. why wouldn't we want sponsorship?

    2. I mentioned above that we need brooms, also balls.

  • 3 hours on a winter weeknight aint gonna happen either..

Why not? Won't your mum let you stay out after 8.30pm?

  • it was snowing last year.. and old people cant stay out, the cold gets to their bones

  • A bit of money could definitely pay for a few brooms, an end of league party, a trophy/cup, etc.

A bit of sponsorship could help with the above and help with equipment.

A bit of lhbpa involvement would help with all of the above and resolve any major injury liability.

What comes with all of the above is assumed responsibility and I don't think the association is ready for that yet.

So if there's any entry fees, who's going to hold it? the association can't.
Who is going to sponsor something that doesn't really exist on paper?

Players need to take the responsibility of buying a broom, balls, cleaning courts, take care of themselves (pads, helmets, etc.), so on and so forth.

    Yes!

Good point max, that's why I put this out here, not so you and bill can romanticise with one another, but so people can raise the pros and cons of an idea.

It could work to do one of these tri-fixtures at a weekend, but not during the week for sure.

  • it was snowing last year.. and old people cant stay out, the cold gets to their bones

It'll mos' def' be snowing where you're going.

    No concrete. No polo.

  • When it snowed back in February, we played in the Peckham carpark. Oh yeah!

  • Max's team completing their fixtures aint gonna happen either..

    Fixed

  • less talk, more polo

  • Let's start the league tonight.

  • what about

    The ToiLeTs

  • Yeah I know... I do quite like Mediocre Tomboys, inspite (in fact because of) your name...

Think of it as a reason to come up with a better name, untill you do that's what we're going to be know as!

Genius Wayne... I'd happily go with that, lets see what my team mates think!
