Roller racing tonight in whites at 6. Mon down. I'm out of work at 5 if anyone is around
Any roller racing in Belfast this weekend (Saturday 27th)? I'm home for the weekend (bikeless) and fancy some drunken antics.

The roller racing is a bit sporadic. The next isn't until September as far as I know

Ah, no worries. Thanks

With people going back and forth a loan bike scheme may work... ;)

See these wednesday rides, whats the route?, Is it on or off road, mostly fixed or geared bikes.
Also any one on here from Fellow Bike Co? I would like to know what it is they do, seems to be conversions of older bikes. -

the wednesday night rides are generally 10 miles or so all in and feature a trip to boojum and much shooting of the breeze. there's a mix of fixed, single-speed and geared. all very relaxed. and, with the notable exception of a circuit of the giant's ring (steady) last summer, they are always on the road.

Sorry I haven't been in contact for a while! Have been busy with work and other boring things, and am just after having my left knee reconstructed so I shan't be on two wheels (or even two feet) for the foreseeable future!
But naturally, this change of circumstances has given me time to think up plans for a new project! Has anyone any experience with a sturmey 3 speed hub with a brake? Does the brake have good power/reliability? We shall call this one the recovery bike!
-
• #339
Ow no :(
The Manfriend is making a Cargo Bike with a 5 speed built-in brake, you can chat him when it's done.
I've grown up on bikes with SA drum brakes they don't cack out in the wet and stopping power is good. Yeah it ain't no disc brake but who is going to go 40 MPH downhill on a roadster anyway... :P
You need to change the pads but only rarely. Very handy commuting option.

That all sounds very positive! I think I will go for it! Probably only three speed though, 5 is far too much choice!
-
• #341
Or you can put a backpedal AKA coaster brake on it. You can lock a rear wheel with those things if you miss your skidding... ;)
3 speed range is 133% evenly spaced over all gears. 66%, direct drive, 133%.
Don't know what the doc says about the torque range I know you cycle fixed 52/16 (not so good for head winds hehehe) that may be too much if your knee is recovering. May be worth asking as gearing may be what you have to use, rather than what you want to use for a while :S

Haha! I think I could be on a full ultegra 20 speed carbon racer and still not catch you in a headwind! I have a few fully geared bikes to choose from for the initial stages of my recovery, a 16 speed alloy/carbon racer, a 10 speed falcon and I'm currently building a 12 speed peugeot so they shall be utilised in the early stages! I don't intend the sturmey build to be used for great speeds or distances so I will be happy enough to use a smaller chainring to get a better set of gears for hills and catching people in headwinds!

Morning all
Angry bee it sounds like you got some fun builds ahead of you
I've been off my bike for the last while due to a lovely fractured hip. Long story, man, dog, bike, brakes, hospital. I hope I'll be back on my bike by December

People always say cycling is good for you... Keeps you strong, fit and healthy. I think this threads members are evidence to the contrary hahaha.
-
• #345
Hahahaha. I'll second that
-
• #346
Ow man, wheel or not wheel, you too? :(
My dad got hit by a dog on his bike years ago and fell over quite badly, got left with arthritis in left ankle due to fall.
Can't trust them dogs. Worse than taxi drivers :P
-
• #347
I'm afraid I can't blame the dog on this one. The idiot owner on the other hand.....
Worst than taxi drivers? I didn't think there was such a thing
-
• #348
I nearly got hit by a dog on the Comber greenway, no leash of course...did the owner apologize and changed his/her ways?
Ah you haven't met IRE plates white van man yet...terrifies even Mr Taxidriver.
-
• #349
An apology? Haha. I got a swift f*ck off from the but then again I had just called him a stupid c*nt for stepping out in front of me

My girlfriend recently more to Edinburgh for Uni purposes this year, so naturally I shall be over visiting quite often.. And this lead to a thought.. It would be terrible to be in Edinburgh so often without transport. I was recently donated a Peugeot 10 speed which, when I did a little research turned out to be a1982 Peugeot Centennial Edition (PH12). Made from carbolite tubing (aero profiled) and with mostly non original components it's a hefty beast! And of little value. I decided that this should be my Scottish bike! I am going to stick with 10 speed for my knees sake for the time being! But I fancied a bit of a racey paint job.. Out came the red oxide and Johnstons gloss!

Castle Espie is nice too, tea and buns for the less drink and more food orientated. Nom. Also wildlife/birdies.
Yeah it can be a bit mental some days, I hate it when people race over the Greenway as it's a SHARED path, not a race track. Also, with all the dogs it's asking for an accident.
