Take a flight to NY and get away from all the soft, passive agressive, weird californians.
lol I feel as though we had exactly the same experience with San Francisco.

Headed to Santa Monica next week and looking for tips of what to see and do.
Anything bike/riding related or otherwise.
Not anywhere near San Francisco of course but there isnt an L.A thread on the forum.
Id start one but i doubt theirs the interest -

I've only been there briefly (2 days for business meetings), so not 100% up on lots of bike things. There is of course the boardwalk which goes on for miles. Also I love Boa steakhouse.
This post is not much use I know.

Oh so I joined the SFFixed web site... no where near the same amount of random/on-topic chatter as LFGSS. I was surprised, but I guess the community here is a lot smaller. I'm member #11079 there, yet we have over 30k here. I blame the invite only policy!
They seem very nice though, yet to meet anyone (work keeping me busy)

Been looking at things to do in LA.. decided it looks shit.
How hard is it to go down and visit Mexico for the day?
What's the entry requirements.. more importantly reentry to the usa? -

Santa Monica itself is a bit too clean and serene for anyone under 50, but tbh if you really like cycling then just hire a proper road bike for the day (Helen's Cycles or Cynergy should have something decent) and take yourself off up the PCH for an afternoon of climbing Topanga and the surrounding canyons. Some of the most incredibly pleasant riding you might ever do, at a time of year when the temperature's perfect.
Evening time, head towards Los Feliz / Silver Lake for good times.Or you could go to Mexico and drink shit beer...

So, don't bother with a car in central SF if you don't have parking. It took me 55minutes to drive home from work (San Jose - > SF) today... and then 40 (yup FORTY) minutes driving around to find a damn parking spot.
Thank god my new apt from tomorrow has private parking.

Well just wanted to let you all know the weather here is lovely. Probably not as hot as with B&D but still, a nice 20c is fine with me.
There's so many small things here that are different that bug me. I don't know lbs & ounces so buying food is interesting. I really miss Waitrose (never thought I'd say that). On the plus side, most Irish bars use real pint glasses and not these tiny american ones.

^consider yourself lucky, if and when I come - I can't even have a drink, out of a pint glass or other wise.

not true. California is one of the states where you CAN drink under 21 but not in Licensed premises. So you could have beer etc... at a bbq at some ones house.
Allowed in California:
On private non-alcohol-selling premises with parental consent
On private non-alcohol-selling premises without need of parental consent
For religious purposes
For medical purposes
For educational purposesMy favorite is "educational purposes" lol

It also depends where you are. A lot of dive bars id now on the door, and only id they accept is drivers license or passport. Higher end bars / restaurants tend not to id.

Get over to Oakland and see Roberto.
Don't know who Roberto is but +1 to Oakland. SF is deader than dead. Sold out to the tech industry and the young professionals. If you're looking for real people doing real things head over to the East Bay and Oakland in particular. You'll need to take Bart, $3.70 or so to cross the bay.
