San Francisco. One of my favourite places in the US.
Drink lots of beer from the local micro-breweries. They are amaaaaaaaaaaazing.

My best friend is moving there for a new job in 2 weeks time! If anyone's got any recommendations about anything out there, please holla. Ta.

I'm so sick jealous of you guys. I'm planning another trip out there in October, my other half told me 'not to wish the year away' which I promised her I wouldn't but definitely am.

Caltrain is very good, I use it all the time when in SF between there and San Jose. It's fecking cheap as well. Should be a shade over 45minutes, and about 13 bux a day.

I was amazed at the double decker bike carriage full of bike racks and seats upstairs, there were loads of cyclists using it when I was there recently.

I'm SF next week for a conference. This thread has been very useful. Seems like we're staying in a good spot (Hayes Valley), will hire a bike and explore if I can find enough down time from AGU.

Am in Cupertino for work next week.
Looks like I might get a day of free time whilst I'm there.... If you had one day in San Fancisco, what you you do? -

Golden Gate bridge is neat to see, dunno about if they still do the walks over it (up high).
Alcatraz is a tourist place, but still fun
Fishermans Wharf is boring, but the seals are pretty neat.
China town is nice
there's quite a lot you can do, depends what you fancyAlso, ask the people @ work

If you've been before presumably you've been to Haight-Ashbury, The Castro, The Mission etc? If not, GO! Wander, go into bars, eat, talk to strangers. Chinatown is also great.

Wake up late, go to the mission, eat a burrito, go to a dive bar, get chatting to tattooed floozies, go home with one on her crossbar, wake up with a rash, rinse and repeat. All my pals who've moved to SF basically do this every day.

Hayes Valley is also a nice neighbourhood with lots of design shops and great local bars/ restaurants. Eat at Sauce. Best mac & cheese I've ever had.

Hang out at polo, with burritos, beer, and certain other things.
21st and Shotwell, in the Mission, most nights.
That's what I did, anyway.

Take a flight to NY and get away from all the soft, passive agressive, weird californians.

So... I actually (finally) really moved to SF. Really should go check out polo since I'm not that far away. Sooo much to do here
-
• #122
Get over to Oakland and see Roberto.
-
• #123
And hang out in Mission... the coffee shop on Valencia, near 15th I think... bike racks outside.
-
• #124
They have amazing coffee there.
Nearby is Box Dog Bikes which is a five minutes ride from that coffee shop.

Do it. Lots of them are also involved in cycling in many other ways, so worst case you can go and drink beer with likeminded people.
And they are very friendly.
I used to live and work there. I still think it's the best city on earth. Worry not, it's a great place, just wonder about and enjoy.
