  • so, the forum likes a range of soundtracks from movies of all different hues.
a representative sample shows tastes to be largely independents rather than mainsteam, (other than 'Top Gun' which is obviously the best played at high volume when 16 years old with your girlfriend of that day holding hands stuffing popcorn into orifices)
    to sum up.

Bladerunner gets the most mentions (and pisstakes)
    up there are also Paris-Texas
    Blaxploitation films like Coffy, Superfly,
and links well to Homage stuff by Tarantino like Jackie Brown.
Im sure the obscure personal favourites are all good too and will play all of them all day now.
    Thanks for posting.

  • My favourite soundtracks are:

Blow Up, The Third Man, Drugstore Cowboy and Lost in Translation (because that use of the J and MC is probably one of my favourite moments in cinema and particularly poignant as I used to live in Japan).

  • Another great Penderecki:

Never seen this film. Is it based on the manuscript found at saragossa by Jan Potocki? if so I'm gonna have to track it down, the book's a fantastic yarn of gypsies, princesses, knights, and a wandering jew. brilliant.

I think so, yes. I'll track down the book then!
And yes, the film is really, really out there.

  • @ Chipped Tooth - who d'ya think films all his ear-splitting shoot-outs?
@ Multi - errrr... my 1st post dude. Burwell... Coens... Didn't want to state the obvious.
Because it's you, i'll forgive and move on

  • ^ I'm in!

  • The Broken Flowers soundtrack is great. Quite a good film too.

  • Has to be Top Gun for me.. did the London to Brighton last summer and Danger Zone is the only thing that got me up Ditchling Beacon... or was it Hanging with the Boys?

  • David Holmes soundtrack for 'Perriers Bounty' is pretty good, slow burning funk.

  • "Brick" OST - various songs but main composition from Nathan Johnson is awesome.

Playing With The Boys you mean, shame on you for getting that wrong. Shame. =P

Anyways, a few of my favs are The Fifth Element (actually anything with Eric Serra), The Mission (Gabriel's Oboe has got to be one of the best musical masterpieces i've ever heard), Sofia Coppola's films tend to have great soundtracks too, especially Lost In Translation and The Virgin Suicides.

  • If we're talking animation soundtracks then definately this.
YouTube - Fantastic Planet (1973) trailer

Still kicking myself for not buying this ost when I had the chance. Great sample by Madlib using this:

YouTube- Quasimoto - Come on Feet

Watched this on the flight back from Nigeria. Don't care how obvious this is but...

  • The Bullit soundtrack is awesome, all of those 70's cop films have awesome music. (I know, it's not actually 70's but it's close enough to validate my point)

  • Grosse Point Blank is my favourite - not an original score, but a good collection of tracks. The fight scene to Mirror in the Bathroom is excellent - just sort of fits...

Violent Femmes - Blister In The Sun
The Clash - Rudie Can’t Fail
The Beat - Mirror In The Bathroom
Queen, David Bowie - Under Pressure
Johnny Nash - I Can See Clearly Now - Single Version
Guns N’ Roses - Live And Let Die
Faith No More - We Care A Lot
    The Specials - Pressure Drop
    The Jam - Absolute Beginners
    The Clash - Armagideon Time
Los Fabuloses Cadillacs - El Matador
Pete Townshend - Let My Love Open The Door
The Specials - A Message To You Rudy
Siouxsie And The Banshees - Cities In Dust - Single Version
Echo And The Bunnymen - The Killing Moon
Pixies - Monkey Gone To Heaven
Tones on Tail - Go! (club Mix)
Dazz Band - Let It Whip
Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five - White Lines - Long Version
    a-ha - Take On Me
The Specials - You’re Wondering Now
    Nena - 99 Luftballons

Also Withnail and I - King Curtis opening with Whiter Shade of Pale....

  • mmccarthy.. you're quite right to point out my glaring error, consider wrists well and truly slapped (my apologies to you too Kenny). Originally in my head it was 'Playing with the Boys', but that sounded a bit homo-erotic so I decided it must be 'Hanging' instead.... because I'm sure we can all agree, that song is far from homo-erotic. Go on Kenny lad...

YouTube- Kenny Loggins - Playing with the boys
