and even though it's like thinking about remarrying whilst at your wife's funeral, I've started looking into replacing everything.
the key thing here is that even thought you put a lots of love in building your bike, in the end, it's just a bike and they can be replaced*, it's not the end of the world.
*apart from super-rare custom bike of course).

I think this is the first time I've ever had something nicked and not completely flipped out about it because I know it's just a material possession. Must be growing up!
Saying that, the frame isn't exactly easy to come by so a bit peeved about that.

Doesn't help your situation, but there's one rule when it comes to bikes, never leave them outside for longer than it takes to break the lock, so usually not more than 15 minutes

Yeah, caught that first time round. It was more for real-time info I was interested. If people were posting about bikes getting nicked anyway, if they could add the lock we could see if there were any trends.
That way, if I started seeing a bunch of posts saying that bikes locked with the same locks I use had been nicked, then I would maybe be thinking about upgrading.

just the area really, I once locked my old bike for 2 days straight (was in hospital no choice) in the mist of Notting Hill, still there after I return for it.

Haven't been in the area for years, any newspaper sellers/evening standard types or any street sellers as from people that I know these are the ones to tap up for info or to offer a reward for the return of your bike. Worth a try.
Well I've done everything I think I can now until Sunday. Reported it stolen, gave detailed descriptions (right down to specific scratches and dents), posters up in various LBS's, spread the word on forums, and even though it's like thinking about remarrying whilst at your wife's funeral, I've started looking into replacing everything.
