  • If the cab is untraceable your friend may be able to claim from the Motor Insurers' Bureau.

    http://www.mib.org.uk

By the way, I had two incidents on my journey home last night. One was a black cab, the other was a woman.

    End of message.

  • If we're going to be doing mass generalisations I'd just like to add that all cyclists are cnuts. They don't pay any fucking road tax and yet think they own the road because they're 'saving the planet' - fuck off and choke on some mung beans. They cruise through red lights putting other decent law abiding drivers at serious risk, because they think they can get away with it - if indeed they think at all and aren't just so busy shuffling through their iPod for phat choonz in a calculated attempt to try and make themselves feel even cooler that they're simply oblivious to traffic lights and other funny aspects of road use like pedestrian-crossings. Because cyclists choose to magically become pedestrians, but with cool wheels, when riding dangerously close around people on a zebra crossing who are simply trying to get from one side of the road to the other and have the decency and responsibility to use an appropriate crossing rather than just launch themselves into the road, but do cyclists care or even give these people some space and just wait a few seconds for them to cross? Do they fuck. Just as they again become 'magical wheel feet pedestrians' when charging along a pavement scattering innocent peds because the cyclist is too 'stweet' to slow down or use the road at all if it's not to his or her liking.

And in summing up, just why are cyclists such cnuts I hear you say? Because they are the very essence of double-standards, worthy, pious, manipulative little shits who'll cry 'foul' when a car or any other vehicle that pays to use the roads dares to get too close to them. But will happily stick their fingers up at the laws of the road whenever it suits them, endangering themselves, other road users and pedestrians in one fell swoop.

I agree, except for the bit about 'road taxes.' I didn't think we had those....

  • All that registered from the OP was

    Clerkenwell Road
    and
    Brick lane bikes
i think i need to change my brand of coffee

  • Black cabs are also inherently racist.

Agreed, as a young middle-class white person I always feel more endangered when i'm within the vicinity of a black cab, racists.

  • Mr Uden

    Great rant

James you are posh, quit this middle class shit you know its a lie

  • When Ian Blair joined the met he put loads of effort into changing the slogan to 'Working together for a safer London' and wanted to change the sign outside Scotland Yard because it was hard to read for the visually impaired. Yes the spinning, iconic sign that everyone associates instantly with the Met. In the end it didn't happen due to a backlash in the papers, but he'd successfully changed the strapline at his old force.

The moral of the story? The cops are busy doing stuff like this, not helping us :(

    And Blair was a twat.

Why don't they change "Working for a safer london" to "Doing fuck all except making the targets"

  • technically not all policemen were helping with chaning the letter heads on hand outs, the other cunts were filling up quotas of speeding tickets and eating donuts made of pig fat invented by the Japs

  • Please report this hit and run. It's unbelievable that this taxi did a runner, you MUST do you utmost to find a cctv image of their registration plates, and nail the bastard.

  • I agree, except for the bit about 'road taxes.' I didn't think we had those....

I highly doubt he was being serious, he was saying how motorists tend to view cyclists as a point to show that generalisation is not the right way to go.

    +1.

Also, take photographs of your injuries and your fucked-up bike. Small details, but will be useful if you ever get this further.

    • 2 - if this was me, i would make sure that i did everything in my power to fuck this cabbie, any cunt that does a hit and run deserves getting an assfucking from the law- i cannot believe that their is no cctv footage of the cab there

Don't get bitter just because I was born into aristocracy and you weren't, its not becoming of a gentleman.

Oh yeah, I got that from the post. But I also think that he's right, in so far as cyclists can be accused of all that sort of shit (as far as generalisations go). I guess I mentioned the 'road tax' thing to point out that his post was pretty accurate otherwise.

  • I highly doubt he was being serious, he was saying how motorists tend to view cyclists as a point to show that generalisation is not the right way to go.

As we rode home we were both very aware of Black Cabs around us for obvious reasons. Have to say half of them were very courteous, stopping slow moving traffic to let us out of junctions etc , but others were too close, too fast, cutting us up etc. So yes, generalisations don't work, generally.

Any form of transport is going to have it's fair share of inconsiderate self important tw@ts, even pedestrians (ever had someone walk into you whilst texting?). Just some of them are less dangerous and less likely to use the brute force of a few tonnes of metal as a threat.

We were both actually suprised that a Black Cab driver would hit and run like that.

Looked around a lot for CCTV but couldn't see any. Also got photos of injuries etc. Having read the accident thread on here before was really useful to be a bit prepared. Without the reg though it is going to be difficult to do any more than report it and get it added to statistics. Keep kicking myself that I didn't ride after the cab as he would probably have been sitting at a red light round the corner. Not what goes through your mind though when your friend is lying in the road bleeding.

Thanks for all advice and links so far. Really appreciated.

  • You may have noticed the exhaust from black cabs seems to be worse than ever too, shitting out big black clouds of crap. This is thanks to Boris Johnson cancelling their mid year emissions tests!
Nice one you floppy haired upper class racist twat.

  • There must be CCTV either just before or after the accident spot, thats what you need to check - the 4th highest earning traffi camera in london is on Clerkenwell road, that spots people parking illegaly and is always on

  • 1+ it's possible to find the after/beforemath of the accident by following the CCTV, all it take is to find a cab that match the incompleted numberplate.

  • There will **DEFINITELY **be footage of the taxi from the congestion charge cameras, which are held for six months from any one date. In that area, there's bound to be a congestion charge camera.

What the police decide to do depends a lot on what kind of pressure you put on them. If they think you can be persuaded to forget about it, they'll hope you will forget about it.

I think you should push this as hard as you can. The guy's actions are very reckless and driving off afterwards is INEXCUSABLE.

Yes, you will get money for all the damage and grief that has been caused - speak to this company: http://www.cycleaid.co.uk/site/home/

  • You might be able to find shots of a cab with the hubcap on before the junction, and not on after the junction, if not the actual cab at the actual junction. You've got the hub cap to prove it happened to you ... its gotta be pretty serious to have interfered with a hub cap.

  • There is a council/police CCTV camera on Rosebery Avenue junction with Laystall Street

    http://www.camden.gov.uk/ccm/content/press/2004/september/cctv-to-make-camdens-streets-safer.en;jsessionid=8D517BB7AA43EFF4A222FD31C3531008.node1

    I'll pass this info on.

Looked on google maps walk about (I'm in Bristol now) and there is a CCTV camera on corner of Laystall, but if it's pointed the same way at all times then it's there to watch the double yellows on Laystall St, rather than Rosebery Ave. Worth a try though.

Good idea about cams before and after with and without hubcap.

the police are not allowed to use evidence from the congestion charge camera network.
