The La Doyenne Classique Jersey is back in stock, so thought it was worth a pop for £45. The matching cap is only £8, but thought that would make me look a bit too keen...

What about the matching arm warmers and socks?

^ That's for when I'm 40+, fat and only ride 8 miles once a week on a Sunday around Richmond Park.

wondering when the weather is going to let me retire (and more importantly wash) the softshell. It has been an ever faithful friend through these dark months

I bought the Merino Crew neck which at first seemed great, but after the first cold wash (no dry) it became a complete mess. Roping all over the sleeves, hem, and back pocket indicating poor construction. The sideseams on one side twisted up to the front really turning what should be a casual trim fitting crew neck into a twisted mess.
Currently asking Rapha for some info regarding a refund. Anyone else run into anything like this regarding the crew neck?

I've got the grey and green and I've washed them both around 4-5 times and no problems....
Is your washing machine on a high spin.....?

I have washed several rapha bits on the 'wool' wash, hung to dry and they have come up fine...
-
• #8443
Did you read the washing instructions? If you didn't, I don't think that even Rapha's very generous refund policy will help you get your monies back. At least you didn't buy and subsequently ruin a Mac softshell or similar!

Rapha needs to be laundered, darling.

Yup, wash instructions for Rapha Merino Crew is just wash cold and dry. I washed cold with my other wool items and dried flat since drying machine sometimes causes pilling/bobbling.
I did some research on it and I just chalk it up to me getting a badly constructed sample if others have bought shirts that turn out great after a wash. I wouldn't mind a refund or a replacement because it actually is a rather nice shirt.
Article I found on "roping"
"We call that "roping" because the twist around the hem looks like a rope. This is a sewing defect, and some mfrs would mark this garment as "second" quality [Lands End or Penneys for example].
There are mechanical forces working against each other that are locked together by the sewing machine stitches. Each time you wash and dry the shirt, the mechanical forces are lifted and swirled, but they can't get past the sewing stiches.
When the operator of the sewing machine folds the bottom hem, the inside part was turned at a 93 degree angle instead of a perfect 90 degree angle. Sometimes the foot pushes the hem ahead of the body of the shirt, increasing the torque."

So, the maiden voyage for my Doyenne jersey resulted in it being ripped full of holes after a crash. Let's see how good Rapha's return policy is for crash damage...
-
• #8449
Well it says they'll repair crash damage for free, the key word is repair. so it might take a while.

Maybe an ex-Rapha-Condor-Sharp team rider
Or perhaps a Rapha Condor Club member? Condor are making club issue bikes now.
