  • I've asked for some of the Rapha soap for christmas.

    What has become of me.

  • I almost lost my Rapha gloves at the Manics concert at the 02 this evening. There's a moral or a metaphor there somewhere, I'm sure.

  • The moral is - you're a lucky c*nt to see Manics.

Blatant and shameless boasting. Love it.

I once wore Rapha to see Kraftwerk playing at a Velodrome whilst Team GB did laps.

    Hows about that? Hmm?

  • reckon i can do that, doing rides on the 23rd, christmas day and 30th and 31st, that plus general riding should get to around 300 miles hopefully

Heh, I was idly thinking I might be able to do this. A last minute seaford ride could be on the cards.

Although most likely this is all talk...

    Yup, that wins.

  • Yeah it does!

  • Feeling smug isn't as good as I though it'd be but it's nice nonetheless. Not pricey though....

  • I was at that gig too, I wasn't Rapha clad.

  • wore softshell on a ride today for the first time this side of summer. Awesome jacket.

I didn't think it was compulsory but I took a cap for Tour de France just in case.

  • repost?

    http://www.rapha.cc/made-in-china

It's been dealt with before without being condesecending and insulting to people reading it in a letter to Rapha and the reply from Simon Mottram:

    http://cozybeehive.blogspot.com/2008/06/why-rapha-is-made-in-china.html

I had a moan on their facebook page about it but they've yet to reply.

  • Mottram's reply is fine. The person writing the article however sounds like a moron. The most technologically advanced factories in the world are in China. It's not all sweatshops FFS. As a country we elected China to supersede us as 'the workshop of the world'.

It's a major problem in my opinion, that we're so dependent on such an ethically questionable country for the production of so many if our goods. However, the truth is that the UK has, for the most part, dismantled its once-awesome manufacturing base.

  • I find it an interesting balancing act.. on one hand it's fine that it's made in China because the quality is good. However, there's still a disclaimer of 'designed in England'. Not really a ringing endorsement if you have to differentiate the two parts (presumably) to placate the customers..

That was my reaction to the article too. The writer isn't just a moron, they assume that anyone reading is too and it's incredibly infuriating to be condescended to by someone who clearly doesn't think much of their readers (i.e. their customers.)

I'm not sure how it even made it to the website in that form.

I totally agree with the problem of manufacturing. I fully expect China, Brasil, India and a few other countries to really shine in the coming years as will anyone who has invested so heavily in manufacture and industry. The link in the article is worth following though - I found it quite interesting.

  • If you do just miss out on a discount code, it's worth emailing to ask if they'll give you the discount anyway. I did this when I bought a thing that was in the sale and the next day it was discounted further; the nice fellow on the other end of the email sent me a gift voucher.

Hmm discount codes.... Pray tell, are these on the forum or just on the internet in general? I think I have persuaded the g/f to get me some Rapha stuff for Xmas so these may come in handy.

(No, I haven't UTFS and yes, I am being lazy)

  • jdp there was a 20% one.

  • jdp, the GOBBLE11 code is still valid for a 20% discount. Only two pages back, you lazy, lazy person, but since it's the season of goodwill, we'll let you off, eh.

  • What are their January sales like usually, and good? I'm thinking I need one of their new hoodies.

  • I think there's usually a Sample Sale in Feb.

  • ^^ The new Hooded Top is really, really nice. They're fast selling out of the navy colour though, so I don't know how many they'll have in the sample sale, if at all.

Really wanting a hooded top as well but with a new colnago frame to spend my money on, I may have to prioritise, and get the hooded top.

I very much like your style.

  • As a country we elected China to supersede us as 'the workshop of the world'.

I'm not sure that is quite what happened.
