I believe that hand sign he's throwing up is otherwise known as 'the shocker'.

• #4979
Actually that sign mean "driver, your light is off".

I pretend I'm a courier on the fringes of society bombing hills and delivering important stuff on my commute
must spread.. etc
Boot polish and you can pretend to be Massan, burning through a pair of vans per week.

Any of you fashion slaves have the long sleeved merino jersey?
I have a fair few merino tops that I use for running etc. But I've never really thought about one for cycling. Those I have seem too thin. The slightest breeze would go straight through them. I'm not expecting windstopper performance, but something in line with a standard lycra jersey. Also I'm going to need the XL (busty fella), but am only 5'7". Will the lack of elasticated waist and wrists, make it fit like a night shirt?
I'm leaning towards the Solo Equipe, which is merino with an outer polyester layer. But the Rapha jersey looks more comfortable.

the ls merino jerseys come up big. unless you're a 'tight' xl i'd think about giving the L a go. I'm 5'9" and on the L there's a good inch and a half of extra sleeve on there if I pull them straight (but I seem to have skinny arms these days so it might shorten up a little if you've got thicker arms than I).
the jersey is comfy though, but perhaps not £100 comfy
the fast emerging rapha running trend and my own personal experience is also that it's also very good for running in. although if you sweat like I do you'll end up with a weird dewy mist-like sheen on the outside where it's done a great job of wicking it away. up close it looks a bit too twilight sparkly vampire for my liking but I'm normally running in tights so that's the least of my concerns.

I currently run in a long sleeved merino top, a thin merino skull cap, and sometimes a merino buff around my neck. I'm nearly always comfortable when I arive home. Yet I can wring several litres of sweat out of my merino layers. Impressive stuff. Nasty, but impressive.
Sounds like I could get a large. I alternate between L and XL for sports tops. But tend to be a XL in cycling tops.
Cheers.

Would a fair summary be that it is nice, but a bit pricey?
-
• #4985
excellent summation Joe, you may be on to something there.
-
• #4986
The LS merino jersey is currently £80.

There is a thread somewhere that discusses the merits of their entire range of merchandise and how repreentative it is of good value for money. Opinion seems to be divided.

Oh, and I'm loving all my Rapha kit. Sometimes I get dressed up in it just to roll around on the floor writhing in ectasy. Glad I didn't pay full whack though, it's a bit pricy.

101 pages? bollocks am I reading another thread that long when I only just finished this one...

Ah. That'd be a bit of a long ride for me.
Pretty sure large will do the trick, and it looks like the large Solo Equipe is sold out. As is the Shutt VR top I was considering on Alwaysriding, and XL sportswool campag tops.

Steady on Gav, that's a big read. Maybe HatBeard would be better off starting a new thread with a similar title. That way people will be able to be helpful and offer balanced opinions in the first fifty or so posts.
Go for it HB.

I see you have to be quick on the keys in this thread if you want to get your self referential nonsense in first.

Took a break from posting 'self referential nonsense', to have a read.

the plain merino jerseys/jumper/track top are not as robust as the sportswool type garments, but plain merino is a nicer fabric

80 quid for a decent quality merino jumper is not bad, look at what icebreaker charge.
nice but reasonable
What I was thinking. Joining rides with complete strangers. A group of two.
