Poached egglets tip:
Heat water until those bubbles make a dash for the surface.
- Place uncracked egg into hot water for five or so secs. One might regard this as a pre-cook dunking.Aids smooth gathering uponiteslf.
Remove swiftly with a suitable implement.
Crack egg and slip gently into heated liquid [close proximity to surface advisable] and poach away.
If one is a stirrer,it's worth reducing vortex velocity a tad.
Boiling water + cold egg (because eggs are kept in the fridge) = Instant cracked shell.
Your advice is no good, Sebastian.
Thanks anyway. - Place uncracked egg into hot water for five or so secs. One might regard this as a pre-cook dunking.Aids smooth gathering uponiteslf.

Eggs should not be kept in the fridge.
The fresher the egg the better they are for poaching. Older eggs arenbetternfor meringue and pavlova etc.

Dear Shoot the Dude,
I'm not Nigella, but you couldn't poach an egg for your
life. If Sausage roll is your thing.... -

True, but eggs are kept in the fridge anyhow.
At least in most houses I know. all fridges come with little egg shelves even. -

Merry new year to you all. -

He only says this because he has a larder (and a butler to retrieve the eggs from therein).

A nadir. Only this board could have a "serious" debate about poaching an egg.
And in breaking news, this from our falling off a log correspondent...

Funnily enough,an ex gf proposed to me whilst I was demonstrating my culinary flair, wearing nothing but a floral apron...
Might have to order a Workshop Apron just in case the situation should present itself again.
Anyone got one.How is the drape and coverage. Are they splash proof.Do fluids just bead off the surface?

So I took delivery of my first ever bit of Rapha yesterday............Ive got to say it's good...very good indeed :o)
A cream 'sportwool' long sleeve jersey.
I am a teeny bit dissapointed that its 'only' 52% merino though.......but I can live with that.
Is it going to 'pluck' though?? Prancer? you seem to know a bit about it?
-
• #4690
did you not look at the tech spec online, it should detail the fabric.
Caveat emptor, utfb etc
Just looked it says this on the page
Fabric
Maximum wicking Sportwool™ (52% Merino 48% Polyester). -

Mrs Brave got me the Softshell trouser for Xmas (I stopped hinting and just told her what to get in the end)
Last night and this morning they wear given a proper test on the dirty, wet commutes (outside of a pootle here and there). Much like the softshell jacket they are worth every penny. Well designed. Comfy. Waterproof. Windproof. No over heating. And good enough to wear as a casual trouser off the bike.
Fucking love 'em.
-
• #4692
Were you a teeny bit disappointed that they were made of softshell material?
-
• #4693
Actually not at all. I like the material. In fact I've had quite a few comments about how nice they are and how nice the material is from cyclists and civilians alike (including my Marketing director who's an infamous label/fashion queen). Some chick in Paris actually stopped me and asked where I got my "pants:" from. Transpired she was a Yank on Hols and also a "fixie". She spied the subtle cycle specific details.

So doing better than stedlocks, thats good.

Softshell troosers sound good.
Poached eggs:
Don't stir!
Get a wide pan and fill with about an inch of water.
Put on high heat until the bubbles are just forming.
Crack egg in very slowly and gently, you are looking to pour it in with as little momentum as possible so it doesn't spread. Don't stir!
Time one minute, then turn off heat. Then time ten minutes.
Perfect poached egg.

hang on, treacle, I like the material.......its lovely against my slight moobs........I wasn't casting aspersions on your beloved clobber ;O)
I think its superb and worth every penny and I will definately be getting more.........
But does it pluck??

Is sportwool too heavy for summer? (25C+)
-
• #4700
stedlocks, you commented you were disappointed that the jersey was made of the material it was sold as being made of. Brave seems happy with the trousers that were not made of crabs.
