  • I wear a RAB Momentum jacket. Not in any way designed for cycling, but i am always dry - even in the worst conditions. Highly aerobic eVent fabric. Awesome. Thumbs up for RAB
It aint cheap though - i was lucky to get one from a rep.
The only grip is the high rise collar with hood. A little too restrictive.

  • is it poncey or poncy or are both acceptable
    Either is fine.

  • i have an event shell jacket - made for mountaineering by crux

tried cycling in it a couple of times

felt like i was in a tropical storm it was so humid, but never had any problems with it for normal use (walking, wearing post exercise layer etc)

  • Ta, will have a look at them. Not much fun when your socks and pants are wetter than your towel at the start of the day.

if you don't want to spend for a waterproof bag get a dry bag or something similar to put in your existing one. Lomo 35L diving drybags are £6.50 each!

Interesting. I'm a little dubious about this with the Rapha stowaway. Thinking of investing.

Thanks, will invest in one of these. Went over to Bike14 at lunch and whilst the Mission bags look great they are £200. Don't think i can quite justify this to myself yet...

  • Rab stuff rocks, proper outdoor kit. And eVent mostly too....

the stowaway is good because it works well in various conditions. i.e. it's going to keep you dryer for longer than you think in the rain and you can keep it on for longer than you expect when the sun comes out as it doesn't overheat.

the gore N2S softshells have this same quality in that they resist most of the rain but are still breathable enough.

i find having a merino baselayer makes a big difference, they may feel damp but they feel warm at the same time unlike synthetics.

i too have an event endura jacket but only use it for short commutes when it's a torrential downpour or it's so cold that overheating isn't going to happen. in fact i'm more likely to use my RAB e-vent walking jacket and pull the hood over my lid

  • Thanks MrSmyth - thats what i'm looking for from the Stowaway, in addition to a really good fit.

  • +1 to MrSmyth.
I have an eVent jacket, and a stowaway. eVent only gets used for short trips in torrential rain.

  • Start a RAB thread

  • Underscore dan

You are on the list of fools!

It was funny to meet you when we were both in head to toe wallet rapa clothing

Fools? Why so? It's pretty bloody good so far

And I was only wearing a jacket :) .... and maybe a bff cap they made....

  • Start a RAB thread

"RAB, nice but a bit ugly"

  • I got a RAB down body warmer. Very nice.

  • The pack includes an exclusive wallchart to help you keep track of developments, a stylish pair of Union Jacks in team colours, as well as stickers and face masks of team riders

  • Wallchart.. FTW..

  • Caved in and ordered my first piece of Rapha clothing, a waxed cotton cycling cap.

    http://www.rapha.cc/gentlemans-cap

Is this the start of a slippery slope into spending too much money for fancy cycle clothing I wonder?

  • Had the rain jacket with me during a recent trip to Italy: small enough to stuff in the back of a lightweight jersey, just the thing for sitting around sipping a coffee on the Gavia, taking the edge of a descent of the Stelvio, and saving my bacon at the top of the Timmelsjock in a storm, nor did it overheat until I got halfway down the mountains (where it was in the 30s). Can't speak more highly of the garment.

The fit is slightly different to the Stowaway - it's a bit stretchier, so I sized down.

    A bit pricey, though.

  • St Leonard's side of the TJ. Nice roll down to Obergurgl, after a plate of chips in the cafe at the top.

The corners (that I could see in the rain and mist) were all decorated with cycling jerseys for a race the next day. Not a fan of the tunnels on the way up, though.

  • And while the chips arrived, so did the perfect jacket (if you like red):

I've got the Vandal.... yes it's pricey, but today I carried x1 full ring binder & x5 files, plus trousers/shirt & gym/wash kit.... plus the usual tubes/tools

  • I have no idea if this is a repost, I searched "rapha suit" and got nothing, but damn, this is effing ridiculous. Alert DJ!

  • repost overload :)

But I still like it. Though I thought it had a pink lining? The photo in the link looks orange, maybe it's the light, maybe it's a prototype, or maybe I'm just full of rubbish.

  • Yeah, I realized after I posted it that it was from what, early 2009??? I'm really late to the party.
