Lots of talk about that lately. There is admittedly a difference in being overtaken at a certain range and making sure that you are visible to traffic before they get to that point which is just as important.

there is a bit of an off putting stereotype in the cyclist that shows up to rides every now and then looking mint in all new sparkling rapha attire. I guess that's part of the backlash you have to deal with in this type of branding
If you can walk the walk too then I dont see any harm in it. Not saying I can...

I posted this over in the police spotting thread, but fwiw since it seems relevant here recent research from the University of Bath found no benefit from high-vis.
http://opus.bath.ac.uk/37890/1/Walker_2013.pdfI personally think there are. When my font light hits the hi-viz or the reflector bits on it that person is VERY visible. It might not be the colour but having those reflective strips on you really does make a difference.
Wonder if 3M can make a scotch tape reflective gilet that fits well.....

or this one I got for running in... http://www.sportsshoes.com/product/NIK6563/nike-flash-reversible-running-gilet/
non-cycling but is as visible as you can get
That actually looks really good and great price. Is it super reflective?

The article is not saying wether or not they make a difference to being seen but if wearing high viz affects the distance in which vehicles overtakes you.

Hit the nail in bold.
If you really want to make sure other definitely see you, change your riding style, rather than what you wear.

this was taken in my living room with the ceiling light on using the flash on my phone. the reflected light basically underexposed everything except the jacket.

it always impresses me that rapha managed to convince the people who laughed at ’hump bag nodders' that hi-vis was cool

More credit due to Vini Fantini / Farnese, surely?

Nike tried to own the color in 2010/2011 by calling it volt. Was a massive branding campaign across many of their markets.

I fully expect Tørm to step up and take advantage of this opportunity:

What the fuck? You're exercising in a garment that has NONE of the magical content of wool? Surely you'll sweat to death (or so I read on various cycling sites that talk about wool sport-specific clothing) Are you insane!?

• #14893
I have one of those gillets- it is awesomely reflective, I nearly always wear it when running, even though it does need some work to manage the "sweat to death" issue once you get up to speed.

I paid £70 for mine I think, god-damnit

4th ride with the gabba and although not the miracle fabric they would have you believe its pretty damn good! Been riding 4 hours plus with just the rapha rab c nesbitt pro team string vest arm warmers and the jersey and if anything have been too hot. People riding around with snoods jackets trousers and im thinking wtf. Would recommend although sounds like you are sold on the ptj...

me too. found that £40 link the first day after I'd sweated all over mine.

Is that Nike gilet any good for cycling? I've seen people head to toe in 3M jogging round regents and you can see them a mile off. Is it boil in the back or a real option for winter training?
-

I have a fully cyber-reflective gilet. It doesn't breathe at all. It's just about OK for a commute in the current weather without sweating like a pig.
Careful not to draw conclusions from the data that aren't being tested for.
