I rode in wearing my hardshell this morning. Upper body is nice and dry, my trousers, not so much.
I have to say, I'm very impressed with it so far. It's not boil in the bag, like every goretex jacket I've ever owned, and it seems to be completely waterproof.

Adds to basket.

Odd that you find GT boil in the bag - I've found it stops breathing well after Nik Wax, but up until then it's always very good.

Meh. So do I go long sleeve Jersey or winter Jersey?
-
• #14257
Long sleeve would get my vote

Mute point because they are out of stock. But the long sleeve country jerseys sound like they are a heavier fabric than the standard long sleeve. I got that purely from the blurb though.
The standard long sleeve is going to be easier to layer in the UK I guess. Which means you can buy more Rapha.

It depends if you want the long sleeve jersey or the winter jersey.

Schoeller Nanosphere all the way in this weather. If it is good enough for the North Shore it is indeed good enough for London.

The thicker material, and windproof sections would make the winter jersey, more like a standard long sleeve jersey + gilet + an extra arm layer (arm warmers/ LS BS).
So really its a question of whether you want versatility or the neatness of a single top.
(All conjecture based on blurbs)

When we set out to create the ultimate board shorts we wanted the perfect balance of form and function. So we took extreme performance Swiss fabrics and tailored them into great fitting shorts that we tested to near destruction on Maui and off its North Shore. (It took a long time.)
The result? Well, you're looking at it. The Spartan: perhaps the only shorts that will make you as happy on land as you are in the water.

Just a thought; is it worth spending loads of money on a rain jacket when it'll need re-proofing and will never be as effective as it was when new? Perhaps it's better to get an ok one and replace it every couple of years (or year if you use it a lot and you've got the cash).

If you are asking these questions then Rapha is probably not for you.

I'm a dedicated Raphalite, but I've never bought a jacket with a DWR coating for this reason. Not being made of money, any Rapha gear is an investment that I want to be using for years, the fact that rain jackets inevitably stop being waterproof really puts me off.
Speaking of investments, having used the Pro Team jersey all summer and washed it tens of times, it still literally looks brand-new. Win.

Buy a rain jacket and go up the ladder from Raphalite to Raphaelite.
-
• #14274
My Rain Jacket is no longer waterproof, still windproof, but it doesn't keep me dry after a heavy rain.
Bit annoying, going to hunt for alternative that's much cheaper, shame it won't be as comfortable as the Rapha version.
