I have it, the idea is the drawstring closes the gap and you dont really feel any cold at all. If anything the small gap that may be left can be a good heat dispersing point.
Plus can be worn as a snood. Its not bad only problem for me was sizing. I have a tiny head and all their head gear is one size fits all.
Fair. That actually sounds pretty neat. It doesn't look all too bad either.
As my input, I received my City Rain Jacket the other day and really like it, so maybe worth considering that too? Faced essentially the same dilemma as you did, in the end it's waterproofness seemed to be useful for commuting. I do still really want the softshell though.

I really like the new Hardshell colours. Definitely prefer them to my blue one, but cannot justify another just because of the colour. Such a good jacket though.

Some amazing looking new stuff.
Really like the new country winter caps. Not sure they'd fit under a helmet though. They look kinda bulky.

Anyone know if a sample sale is likely?

Smallfurry, did you ever buy that rab stretch neo jacket? if so, how was it? Can't decide between that and the PTJ

Was there ever a softshell gilet?
And is it now replaced with the transfer gilet?

I found a similar jacket in a clearance sale from Haflof. Same principle of being more waterproof than a softshell, and more breathable than a hardshell. Inbetweenie thing. Worth noting that its a load lighter than a softshell, and just as stretchy/flexible.
I bought mine for use as a hardshell when out and about in the nordic winter. So its a bit big for cycling (room for layering). Plus I obviously cant comment on the fit of the Neo anyway. But the material seems like a great hardshell solution for those that run a bit warm in 'proper' hardshells. Mines never leaked, is amazingly windproof, and doesnt make me sweat. I used mine from 15 to -10C, for everthing thing from active stuff like cycling/skiing to sitting around on a lake in the rain fishing. Massivly broad range of comfortable usage.
I actually think the Neo would be, if anything, slightly better.
Massive difference in fit between something designed for activities like climbing, and cycling though. Long arms, and back on both for coverage while reaching. But the Neo will be loose around the trunk.

Thanks! Sounds like it covers most of my bases, i'd never buy a proper hardshell but this seems a good middleground, i can live with a slightly weird fit.

Lots of features work for both hiking/climbing and cycling. The pocket layouts tend to be good. Plus, like I said, the arms and back should'nt ride up too much. You just wont achieve the same 'racing' fit as the PTJ I guess.
Depends on needs.
I certainly get on with the material.

Agree - the caps look ace. I'm gonna get a Norway one. I would like to see if it gets under a helmet first though... but it does look like the bit that actually would go under your lid is thinner than the ear / neck warmer section.
A sample sale would rock my world. Do they tend to have one right at the start of a 'season' though?

Girlfriend gave me some for my birthday, a black Paragon shirt and a light grey hoodie.
They're nice, the hoodie is a lots lighter in colour than it is, unless it's not the same one, dubious by it's claim of water resistant thought.
edit - not the same hoodie, can't find it in their site.

The deep winter gloves are back in stock, but the bundle with the liners has dissapeared :(
Mine did today, I was soaked to the bones from the morning and evening commute apart from my top which were bone-dry.
