  • John Smedley sweaters make excellent baselayers, 100% merino and very good quality.

  • Dead cheap too

  • I wore one today.

  • I recently got the softshell jacket and after two weeks general performance seems to be good. What I am undecided about is whether it is £240 good.

Does anyone have any experience with the Vulpine softshell (http://www.vulpine.cc/Shop/All/All/SOFTSHELL-JACKET/ITM1000)? It is a whopping £80 cheaper. Interested to see that Tokyo fixed gear is a stockist, might pop in to try it on.

  • contemplating getting either the softshell or hardshell. Has anyone got both and if so which do you prefer?

  • My dad got the hardshell, but to be honest, the softshell work in all but the heaviest of downpour (which only left you feeling slightly damped rather than soaked).

Their lightweight Harrington looks pretty nice. Not for this time of year right enough, but nice all the same.

  • 30% discount on Rapha base layers- online only.

  • Are the Rapha base layers fooking amazing? I'm tempted, but £45.50 is still twice as much as perfectly good base layers from Decathlon.

In other news, I'm starting to lust after some Twin 6 stuff. Anyone got experience with these jerseys?

I wear my v neck base layer all the time - under shirts, as a t shirt, more off the bike than on it tbh. A great piece of clothing.

  • You nasty cow

contemplating getting either the softshell or hardshell. Has anyone got both and if so which do you prefer?

I'm currently trying to get my moneys worth from the softshell and, so far, I can highly recommend one.

I think for the UK a softshell is more than adequate but if you can afford it, get both!

  • I have both softshell and hardshell (as well as the original stowaway) - both are brilliant for current conditions. Softshell has a slightly higher collar and the material is slightly stretchy, hardshell has a lay-flat type zip and slightly larger left-side pocket. For extreme conditions of wind and rain I would go for the hardshell, but ultimately, it may come down to your colour preference! (I have pale grey in softshell and dark blue in hardshell).

  • Does anyone have the winter gloves? I've dropped enough hints with the missus so I'm expecting some for Christmas

  • Thanks for the advice guys. Also, do you find you overheat in the softshell at all?

  • 30% discount on Rapha base layers- online only.

when i had -20% promo code during summer i just showed their email on my phone and they made a discount in the shop. so worth trying...

strange that discount code doesnt work this time on base layer bundles. would be cheaper to buy 3 layers separately..

  • Code?

30% discount on Rapha base layers- online only.

    Uniqlo crew-neck merino jumpers, £20

  • Jake - forgot to mention that the softshell has zips under the arms for that extra ventilation when you might need it; I've never had the need to use them and think they are a bit gimmicky - but then I'm a bit of a softie.

As for overheating, you may need to get the experience with whatever baselayers you might have, but I've never found it a problem.

  • sportpursuit has pretty decent discounts on icebreaker merino baselayers, hoodies, hats, etc at the moment. long sleeve ones are 33 quid vs RRP of 60. I think they are nice and not so pricey.
Cheers! Sale ends after this weekend it seems.

Is that what is was: they work nicely with bibs when Dr. Who is around? But maybe no horizontal stripes?

  • Does anyone know a decent alternative to their deep winter collar as it is sold out?

I have one of these and it's very warm. (And half the price.)

  • I like these because you can pull them over your ears when its really cold

Arc'teryx gear half the price of another brand. This is hilarious.
