IRD Niobium Road (summer) and Ambrosio Excellight (winter) FTW!
I've built 4 wheels recently, involving 2 different types of rim, 3 different types of hub, and 3 different types of crossing. They've all been 290mm. Mind-blowing.
Say what you will, but you can't say my life's boring.

I was in the process of doing some research for my 29er wheels.
Hope Pro II trials/SS hubs, laced 32 3X to Velocity blunt rims. DT swiss spoke calc gives 290 (disc brake side) and 291. I was going to round them all down to......
.......... ***290. ***

I'm going for a lie down. -

I always tend to round down and usually take another mm off. Better to reach the recommended spoke tension and risk having a few threads showing rather than reach the end of the thread with the spoke still loose.
It's a controversial subject. Not engaging enough threads in the nipple can cause problems. Being 1mm too long definitely won't.
Spoc calc gave me 290,3 to 291,3 for my current build (varies very slightly for disc brake sides, and short trials freehub side). I could only get even number spoke lenghs, so figured I'd round down to 290 (I tend to agree with arup, sorry BMMF).
Thing is, DT Swiss spoc calc assumed 12mm long nipples and I have 13mm ones. I'm curious to wether...
13mm nipple + 290 spoke = 12mm nipple + 291 spoke.
I'm sure its too little to matter. I just like to get things spot-on :)

when in doubt, I always go for a longer nipple and a shorter spoke.

Cool, that makes me near as makes no difference to spot-on. Bought some of these gimmicky things.
I was curious to wether I would be able to install a StansNoTubes strip over the top (when I can be bothered to attempt a conversion to tubeless). Belt and braces innit. If it dosent work I can just remove them for reuse. -

just about to order my spokes to lace up my wheels been using the spoke calculator to work out the spoke length. i'm coming up with 284.5mm the only spokes i can find at either 284 or 289mm. which length do should i use? will 0.5 be too far out?
if it helps i am using on one hubs with halo aerorace rims with 3crosses (no crosses for the front). -
• #140
284mm.
-
• #141
^ Is fine - you can go 2mm either way - so 289mm not fine.
-
• #143
284 will be dandy.
-
• #144
hang on.
you are calculating 284.5mm for both your front (radial) and rear (three cross).
?
-
• #145
thanks for the help everyone.
@ZED no 284.5 for the rear and 260.1 for the front. just thought i should give all the info on what i was doing. -

phew....

didn't want to start a new thread so i thought i'd tag my question on here.
i'm about to order spokes to build a pair of 32h on-one hubs to mavic a119 rims 3 cross and i wanted to make sure that 298mm would do for both wheels? -
• #148
I've ran it through my calculator (http://lenni.info/edd/) but I get spoke lengths of 291 and
294292 (depending on front or rear).Do you know the measurements of your hub? Here are instructions on how to measure: http://lenni.info/edd/howtomeasure.html
-
• #149
one one track hub (high)
flange dia rear 62 front 62
c to flange rear 28 front 33.5
spoke hole 2.6 2.6measured with a vernier, I've built up 4 pairs of these recently. some sites list other sizes so be careful, the one's on Lenni's calculator are slightly different, (the last set that comes up in the search) but give the same spoke lengths anyway.
to the OP, I am not convinced radial is a good idea with those hubs...

^^ pretty much what I have measured too. But only have specs for the rear.

thankyou kindly sir
have you built up a pair of these yourself or had someone do it ? decent wheel set ?
