I don't really care, but it might be an idea to consider whether making people more angry and frustrated whilst driving is a good idea?

If you are constantly slowing to 4mph, over the bump, speed up to 20mph, slow down to 4 mph, over the bump, speed up to 20mph, slow down to 4 mph, over the bump....

How does reducing speed limits make people more angry?
-
• #80
Because it takes longer to get to their destination.
-
• #81
The difference would be tiny. Some traffic would probably flow better with lower limits.
-
• #82
Perception vs reality innit though?
The driver might get somewhere in the same time, possibly, but they will feel like they've taken longer.
I don't buy this "go slower to get there faster" thing anyway- it just makes people cut corners, slam over traffic calming and zoom down rat runs.
-

I'd rather an angry driver at 20mph than 30mph.
Slam over whatever they want.. it's their suspension.
-
• #84
But they don't, do they?
Take those humps they put in the road- all drivers pretty much swerve left or right to avoid them, which is more dangerous for cyclists, not less.
-
• #85
I swerve around them too. I had that shit.
20mph it aint.
-
• #86
drivers will get used to it, in fact lower speed means a better environment for people on bikes and on foot so more drivers may be less scared to cycle so may do so. I think many drivers are just frightened potential cyclists.

I find speed bumps cause anger, a low speed limit seems easier to accept, even easier when doing a couple of mph above it!

you should be able to do a speed bump at the speed limit, that's the point of them, if it's in a 20 zone, you should be able to do roughly 20 over it without issue (especially in a lamborghini) if your doing 20 - 4 -20 - 4 - 20 etc then you're over cautious or driving around in an unsuitable car for built up areas (get a range rover), save your anger for country roads and rinse the car around there instead
-
• #89
Thats not how Speed humps work
-
• #90
that's how I use them, unless I know they've been made too big
-
• #91
I prefer my suspension to work for more than a year and my wheels to remain round.
-
• #92
I teach people to drive in my car, so can't worry too much about luxuries like round wheels and the like

They should work like that, but they don't- the new ones by East Dulwich station make the buses slow down to 4mph to get over them.

And you can take speed bumps at 70mph if you don't give a fuck about your car- or it's a hire car/nicked
-
• #95
Depends on the car you've nicked.
-
• #96
tru dat, they don't all work like they should, I just go slower over the ones I know have been made too big for the speed limit though, to be honest, they're all a bit shit, if only people drove better...

I was driving down Camberwell Grove the other day, at a speed that meant I could go over the speed bumps without slowing, so ~18-20mph.
Car behind leant on the horn, flashed its lights, then over took me, racing off to the end of the road.
Where I pulled up behind them, as the traffic meant they couldn't pull out.

try driving around in a car with L plates on all day, people assume your going slow no matter how you drive, fuckers overtake at the stupidest times, best bit is beating them at lights after correctly using a bus lane, only up to 30 of course

if only people drove better...
See post below yours and above this.

My dad got pulled for going over 30mph in a built up area once (30+ years ago). Stupid plod had been sitting there watching a time trial without realising it, and said he'd seen a load of cyclists going too fast and just picked on one at random. As my dad was about as good as me (i.e. destined for perpetual mid-pack obscurity), he was slightly pleased to have been going fast enough to get noticed, which reduced the annoyance of having his race ruined.
Did they use boot polish?
Why?
