  • Alright cheers, will start to do that and give the Topeak ones a go when I next order something.

  • Swear by these.

Rema tip top for when you get home.

  • I use park tool too, even on latex tubes

  • I've used both Lezyne and Park mostly without issue.

Neither of them worked in TransAm up fucking McKenzie pass in the damp cold air of the forest. Gotta love watching everyone ride past you, while trying every trick in the book and every patch and tube in your kit to solve one mystery fucking issue.

  • Mine don't. I keep it in a plastic bag, keep the threads clean and don't let it get squashed in your kit and it should be fine.

  • +1 on Park Tool patches. Never had a problem with them. As long as the inner tube is clean, they'll work.

  • Park Tool GP2 as above are the fucking best, have held on tubes for > 2500km.
Sand lightly, keep tube clean and dry, press from the centre of the patch outwards to get smooth
    Works a treat

  • 3 rides in on GP5000 TL...

Possibly couldve got 2 worms in there, but the tyre unseated so ended up just putting a tube in to get home before work. obvs this mess then happened...

Is this a warranty job or just an unlucky coincidence? I've had plenty of conti tyres over the years and none have failed this quickly.

  • All I see is a no-entry sign

  • oops. Should work now

  • Looks like a big sidewall failure. Did it puncture then you ripped the sidewall or just blow out JRA

  • Hedge lined lane. Blew out on the right side while going round a left corner, which seemed odd.

  • Return for replacement but if the shop isn’t up for it I’d contact conti

  • I used to swear by Park ones, but they do not like the heat or large inner tube 32mm and above from experience. Also, if you tube is too small for the tyre it won't hold for long.

I found the topeak one slightly better lately.

Use proper vulcanising patches to repair the tube once you get home.
Repairing tubes is a great way to be more sustainable as well!

  • Continental are prone to catastrophic sidewall failures. You’ve got lucky if you haven’t had this happen before.

People should listen to @hippy more.

  • I think the quick ink was not a good idea. At least you know where it happened.

  • I'm only on my first set of Gp5000 but have had 4 sets of GP4000 without that happening

  • Teravail Rampart in 700x32 set up was a breeze (I got lucky) and sealant is in. First initial ride is very impressive at 70psi.

  • Thanks for heads up on Terravail v. happy thus far. 🤞🏻

  • They are a bit heavy but built to last hopefully.

  • schwalbe g-one speed 700x30c running tubeless - recommended PSI for gravel? I've been running them at max PSI (80) for road but that doesn't seem sensible. thinking between 45-60. anyone got any direct experience/recommended pressure?

  • You can’t recommend tyre pressures for other people. Gravel type, rider weight, rider style all changes these things.

For example, even at 85kg’s I ran them at 55psi front/65 psi back for road.

I ran them at about 35psi for New Forest gravel roads.

  • Is there a rule of thumb for working out a decent tyre pressure? I've just run all of my tyres for road riding at 80psi for years (probably because someone on lufguss told me to and it felt ok).

  • Isn’t the rule of thumb your weight in kgs minus 10%? Or did I make that up?

  • Depends what size tyres, your weight, surface you're riding on, and how you like em to feel.
As an example, I'm 68kgs, ride 32mm tyres, mostly on road, 45psi front, 50psi rear (give or take, don't think my pump gauge is that accurate).
