Snapped up a pair of 25c Michelin Lithion 2 for Winter duty on my fixed.
First ride today was joyous - really comfy, grippy in the wet even on cobbles and nearly as quick as the 23c Vredestein Fortezza Tricomp Summer tyres that I took off the bike.
Would recommend. (Planet X has best price currently - £26 the pair - making them less than half the price of a single Conti 4 Seasons).

I want a pair of tyres for my road bike. Was just going to go with Gatorskins - 700x23c - decent grip (in the wet?), puncture resistance, durability and speed are priorities.
Is that realistically too much to ask?

Looking for the lowest profile clincher *tyres I can buy online without spending silly money? Won't be skidded on. The less branding the better.
It'll be going on an Omega V.
Thanks -

Also, how does the Conti 4000s compare?

ThanksVittoria Diamante in whatever their smallest size is?

Yes.
What is reasonable to ask? I'd like to think I'm being realistic - I'm not expecting the grip and puncture protection of a 32c Marathon and the weight and rolling resistance of a £100 tub but a reasonable balance between those or at least a tyre which hasn't hugely neglected any of those, ie something that gains in one area at the cost of another.

I find Maxxis Refuse to be good on grip, durability and puncture resistance, but they aren't particularly quick.
I really rated Michelin Krylion but Michelin have replaced them with the Pro Race 4 Endurance, which I've not tried. They are the closest I've used to your four criteria.

Anyone have any experience with Vredestein Fortezza Tricomp Folding Tyre for winter? Was going to go with the Vredestein Fortezza Quattro TriComp but they dont come in red and I am a bit of a tart.
How do they fare against a Conti 4 Seasons? Need some better puncture resistancy in the wet. Schwalbe Durano S clearly are not it.

I've been using Michelin Pro-Race 4's (Service Course), which look and feel great in the dry. But as soon as it rains i'm picking up splits from glass etc. It's not even like i just replace the tube and go again either, two bits of glass have ruined two tyres, unable to use again. I'm now thinking of ditching them for something else.
I haven't seen anyone one here say anything about the thickslick's....i imagine because they're not very good, but as far as i can see they're the only option for a more durable slick tyre.
Anyone had any experience with them before i go off and buy willy nilly ?

Semi slick Marathon Supremes @ £25 in 28C is nearly half price

I have the Vreds on a few bikes - but they aren't a winter commuter tyre - ok for Sunday rides etc but not a wet Monday morning commute - they cut/ puncture/ wear too much.
4 Seasons are my fave all weather commuter tyre (28c on my wet weather bike) - Michelin Lithions in 25c for Winter footwear on the fixed (White Vreds in the Summer)

So much for Conti GP4 Seasons.
Punctured in front on friday night sharp piece of glass right through. Will glue cut back now from the inside and use a repair patch to close it up. Perhaps could have happened to any tyre but didnt expect it only after weeks on supposedly one of the best puncture proof tyres about.
Perhaps I need to reduce the tyre pressures? What is the optimum psi for a 23c in winter?
-
• #449
Conti >>>
Pressure depends how heavy you are and what you find comfortable.

65kg usually happy to run at 100psi
