  • Make sense, 25 can fit.

  • Thanks, will give them a shot. Think I'm technically too heavy for 23's anyway

  • Just picked up an awol and I really like the 45c fatboy tyre.
I was wondering if anyone knows where I can get some spares?
I only can find the mtb version online

  • Cyclestore 29.99

  • Vitorias were awesome today on some pretty crappy N Yorks roads. Just seemed to soak everything up and felt like riding through (fast) treacle.

    Love 'em

  • Big slicks for 26". What is out there around 55-60mm?
super moto are no more and big one is only in 27.5 and 29.
What are my options now? lightweight and supple.

  • What about price? compass Rat Trap seem like an obvious choice

  • Do marathon supremes without the reflective stripe exist? my googling isn't definitive.

  • It can be removed by peeling it off.

  • Not much more then schwalbe kojak 2.0 as that would be my alternative.
Do rat traps come in all black?

  • Kinda, was easily when it been on the bike for a while (have to otherwise customer get the strip tangled up on the cassette/rotor/wheels).

  • I'm considering the new Conti Sport Contact II for my 26" bike. "Only" 2.0" though, but rolling resistance (here tested for the 700c version) seems to be good, and they are cheaply available in Norway:

  • 700c winter road tyre in the 30-40c area? Tackling a bit of trail would be a bonus. I've ridden all winter on Open Paves and they were incredible, if I could get them in 35c, I would.

Will this be a hive mind Strada Bianche recommendation?

  • Winter tyres?! Already??

  • If I start thinking about it now, I might have come to a conclusion by winter.

Also, the cross bike / winter trainer they're going on is my newest bike and I'm still in the 'buy stuff and fiddle' stage

  • Paves are tougher than strada bianca, so I'd say not really a winter tyre. I'm trying the rivendell Jack brown (made by panaracer) next after I wear my SBs out.

  • Hmm... I'll let you off then...

Compass Bon Jon seem good so far, running them tubeless at the moment. Dry/damp bridleways fine, bit meh on mud/damp grass as expected.

WTB Nano make for good towpath commuters, reasonable on road but probably a bit knobbly for a winter trainer tyre.

  • It's my intention to swap my current Rocket Rons for WTB Nanos for summer exploring / touring / bikepacking / cross / everything else, then find something big and comfy for banging out the winter training rides when it gets grim again.

Also looking at wheels to pair them too in the wheels thread. Heart wants 303s, wallet says 'Chinese eBay wheels'.

  • Sounds exciting. Are these the right ones. They seem a bit too good to be true

Unless I've been ripped off with some very good copies, they definitely do. I ordered mine from Spa Cycles and was expecting the reflective strips but they're not there. Done about 1200 miles on them so far on various surfaces + fully loaded, no problems so far.

  • Currently running a 27mm Conti GP tire in rear (steel framed bike) and the tire has close clearances: 2-3mm between the tire and chainstay/seatstay bridges and both chainstay sides.

I had some spare links but think they were thrown out..even moving the tire back a 1/2" won't do much..maybe add an extra mm.

I did a 30+ mile ride the other day and couldn't find any rub marks/hear rubbing sounds. The bike has an almost silent drivetrain so I would hear it.

The tire is almost new and I don't want to bin it...how safe is super tight clearances in the rear on a steel framed bike (since they do flex)?
I'm purchasing 25mm soon for front/rear but curious if this is even safe.

  • you rode it and it was fine = it's fine

  • how safe is super tight clearances in the rear on a steel framed bike (since they do flex)?>

Not only do steel frames flex but wheels sometimes go out of true. It is, in general, not a great to push things to their limits. If 27mm is tight I'd keep to 25mm or less. Why do you think you need 27mm? Why do you want 27mm?

  • Dude, you're just looking for a problem that doesn't exist.
