  • Fair enough dude, let's talk shop on Sunday. Should we start a committee? (joke) ;)

  • Perhaps we could make a list.

    1. Bogey
    2. Power
  • dudes, we need to talk tourney time. i think all are happy with the court now, its certainly a ball to play on. we chatted about possibly going for a sunday lunch or beer before we play on sunday this week. who would be available to make such an appointment, at say midday?

i think the general consensus discussed is a tourney around end of Feb time or maybe earlier (say when the grief masters is on) and get all the regional poloists down for some fun all inclusive polo.

  • Tournament every weekend

  • Angelos this evening , food , tabletop games console from the 80'sz , and a meeting about some tournament or something . After 7 , after POLO .

  • we have quite a lot of stuff to discuss/argue/sulk/ignore ...

Can we have a meeting this week sometime ? Tues wed thurs fri evening ? Or sunday after POLO ?

    Agenda

    1.Tournament Organization.

What and who is going to sort out the bogs , and food , and sleeping arrangements
Format , times , reffing , rules ,etc
Prizes , badges, posters, t-shirts , balls , spoke cards , scoreboards and trophy

    1. Kids
there were a couple of under 18's wanting to join in the other day , can we talk about this
    2. Team night,
      lets decide when
    3. aob?

There's quite a few things in there that the sooner we discuss the better, anything that needs making, delivering or printing. I'd prefer Tuesday for an hour before/after polo or Wednesday.

  • Sooner agreed Tuesday ?

  • tuesday, agreed, meet up early PM before polo, pub round the corner?

Why would this be a problem? Any other tourney I've been to has never had a problem with under 18's. Why would ours be any different.

For many reasons which we can discuss at a meeting , not just for tournaments but at throw ins too. Maybe you could volunteer to run a youth bike polo night and organize Insurance for it ?

    im so over this

  • Looking over it with binoculars and a dirty tissue...

  • Dude, but seriously what the fuck. One minute you're all like 'yeaarr wooh lestts trash the place, whoog illegal rave' then the next you're like oh well we're not sure you can play because you're under 18. If Cambridge polo is about to get a political as London then I'm fucking out.

  • OOOh get you !

It's about having a discussion about some 13 year olds who came by on sunday and wanted to play . I said they couldn't without their parents permission because i'm not happy about being sued when one of them gets their eye knocked out. I don't remember seeing children at the last illegal rave i went to either although being 46 means everyone looks like a child to me anyway. Creativity and destruction are part of the same process no?
I don't know who these kids were , whether their old man is a high court judge or a copper but i don't see the advantage personally of including them . I'm not extolling excluding you and Luca from anything , i'm just not happy as the name on the lease to be done for assaulting a minor . But if someone wants to run a youth section (similar to what you do in cyclocross) be my guest.

  • Ok, so would a waiver cover it? If countersigned by a parent/guardian giving them a full run down of the sport and the likelihood of an injury/dangers involved, then its on the parents to decide if they approve? I was not aware that there were people younger than use wanting to play so assumed anything directed at -18s was me and Luca.

  • Sorry a misunderstanding , not having a go at you guys at all . I just wanted to discuss what our official line is .A friend of mine who is a tattooist was telling me the other day that he could be put on the child abuse register if he tattooed someone under 18 without their parents written permission . I know it's not the same but i'm worried about things like that .

  • butts in over last few posts
    well that got bitchy,
tell me to fuck off if you like, I wont listen but you'll feel better.
I spoke to the kids and they are dead keen(in an I don't want to look excited as i'll lose my cool look), I said if they got a propper signed disclaimer from their parents and got propper kit and things, then asked to play perhaps they'd have more success, other wise I said all you need are mallets and a hockey ball go teach yourselves then turn up in a few months and kick the 'adult' cambridge polo's boys arses :), which they seemed quite pleased about.

I agree with the fox. You /could/ be snubbing out new talent, but if they're that keen then they'll kick off polo on their own, then you can have gang land style turf wars, it'll be epic! :D

wanders off back to Birmingham section

  • sorry guys, them coming was due to me. i sold one of them a bike and i soon realised he planned to play polo on it. i told him he should come down for a few sessions first to speak to everyone and see what their opinion is. i also told them about getting their parents down because thats what i did and i know how you guys feel about playing with younger people. sorry for any muck up.

  • Don't worry about It dude. Let's meet the parents and go from there, they might be youth sports entrepreneurs, love what we do, and fund a brand new court for us. Who nose? I do think that RV needs to make sure things are done right as it's his name on the lease/ insurance and if shit flew it'd stick on him, I see where you're coming from totally.

  • Well me and Angelo are going to start the over 40's club anyway . By the look of the age of Peters cycling club mates i reckon we can get a few down from there. ;)
I'd already told them pesky kids to go and get us written permission or bring their folks down which is fine as its what we've been doing for the last couple of years anyway .That wasn't the issue. I wanted to discuss in a closed meeting the concept of a youth team if it became popular and we ended up with a lot of kids wanting to play, and what the general consensus was . Feb's rollergirls don't include under 18's for quite a few reasons which we haven't discussed here . I didn't want this to be aired in public as the kids in question are probably on here and have been put off forever anyway . There was already a lot of people playing on sunday anyway and i thought we don't really need this today. If we are to be actively recruiting maybe we could be a bit more assertive and proactive ?

  • i see what your saying now. lets talk tonight about it.
