Not if the old boot from the RHA has her way
-
• #328
The RHA are pushing for longer (by 2m) vehicles, so they can carry more bog roll around the M25.
If that goes through – they can spec these cameras for the new trucks?

Uff, that Video they had in there with the lorry overtaking just sent shivers down my spine.

Yeah there's not a lot you can do about vehicles carelessly or deliberately overtaking from behind. I had a minivan do that to me last week (first time in over two years commuting) - it passed on the corner, hard on the gas, cutting close in just as we reached the apex of the left turn. Fortunately it's a rare occurance but you can see how it could very easily be fatal - it's a matter of inches.

I still hate the bald speccy cunt more though.
I would have preferred him to be "testing" the create on a downhill, only to suffer a catastrophic mechanical failure, that resulted in the entire excuse for a bike being wedge 4 foot up his arse.
I met him not long ago. Turns out he's the best mate of an old colleague who I spotted at a gig. He seemed nice enough in real life. Stupid glasses and speech impediment though.

"Many see cycling as, at best, something reserved for country weekends rather than everyday travel. The few who do ride in cities tend to be keen enthusiasts, thus reinforcing the niche image."
Doesn't seem right, in my experience in Ldn. Look at any A-road in london at 8am on a weekday. Loads of cyclists, many of whom it would be laughable to call enthusiasts (and they would share the joke).

• #339
I agree but I wonder if London, or major cities in general, are different in that respect?

The article is so vague as to be almost meaningless. It seems to try to argue that there have been powerful campaigns and that they have failed. The fact is that hardly any action has been taken by authorities. As usual, out comes the magic 'solution' and 'if only we did this, at last it would all start to happen'. I almost wish I could still believe that it was all so simple. :)

Sounds like they'll be publishing the full study soon. Get a copy Schick.

Not quite sure what you mean? What full story?
-
• #343
That article and the same author's post in the blog section refer to a study that is nearing completion. The blog post actually has a long opinion from the CTC on the topic.

Oh, I see, yes, I saw that. There doesn't seem to be anything new there. I'll give it a scan, but this stuff has been chewed over for decades with very little novelty.

more today.
thanks for highlighting the study.however the first sentance Peter is utter bollocks isnt it really- first class lazy journalism .
I ll quote it for posterity and because it is so simply false.
"Years of government efforts to promote cycling have had almost no impact on a sceptical population who largely view bikes as either children's toys or the preserve of Lycra-clad hobbyists, a university study has found."the best response on the blog puts what government spending is actually like in context:-
Qte
The transport minister, Norman Baker, said the government was committed to encouraging more people to cycle though Bikeability and the £560m sustainable transport fund. "Like another Norman before me I am keen to see more people get on their bikes," he said.
Unqte
"Maybe ask him how this compares to the overspend on the Essex section of the widening of the M25 ( over a billion and counting ) .
It appears he is much keener to see us all rush round the M25 as fast as we can." -

Sad to see Dave Horton in "segregated" fauxilities bandwagon. He has had half adequate papers out earlier. http://thinkingaboutcycling.wordpress.com/article-fear-of-cycling/
Have you consider cycle training him?
