• if you cant find the problem and mess with it and then take it back to the shop, they are within their rights to tell you to fuck off as (i assume) you arent a qualified mechanic who works at said shop. so if you've removed stuff, they might say bad luck sucker, you caused the problem, therefore, any repair aint free... leave it alone, take it back, kick up a fuss and tell them to sort it. like 'jamas said, you wouldnt do it with a new washing machine, or a car. hell, it could be something real simple or something real bad like a cracked frame, but ultimately it isnt your responsibility to sherlock out the problem. TAKE IT BACK. thats why you buy at a local bike shop, not online, for the excellent cuntstomer service. see.

  • It's prob yer freewheel.

Run it fixed on yer flip/flop and see if the problem remains.

    Bet it doesn't...

  • ive brought this up in another thread but i cant find it now and its the same sort of problem.

there's a creak coming from my seatpost thats driving me nuts. whenever i go over a bump or even just press down on my saddle i get this creak. skully answered me and said it was a bit of moisture and that if i grease down the rails of my saddle and the seatpost it should all sort out but it hasnt. ive greased the fuck out of that thing and its still there. any other suggestions? its going in to brixton cycles for a checkup in a month, but its driving me nuts now!

  • sounds like dirt on your crank arms. Try an alcohol soaked rag and pull it through the dole on the arm where it attaches to the BB.
What ever you do, DO NOT use any kind of lubricant when cleaning/or re-attaching the arm to the BB.

  • BTW is i a square taper?

  • thanks MG, I'll try that, I think it is a square taper, it looks like it from the little I can see down the gap, (I need to go get some longer hex keys mine are pathetically too short to get the crank arms off, job for another day) was there something about square tapers that relates in some way? any ideas you have, are gratefully recieved.

  • I have the same bike (but 2007 model) and have the same problem. I'm almost certain the issue with mine is that there's a particular link in the chain that's making the noise - I have no idea what it's called but it looks different from the others and I think it's the one used to shorten chain length. the noise comes every 2/3/4 pedals which is about the time it takes for this link to come around.

    Could be the same thing?

  • When i lift the front wheel via the bars and drop it a few inchs of the floor i get a deep vibrating noise, like a clunk, that reverberates through the frame, its alien as ive never had this on any of my other frames before. And for the life of me, i have no idea what is causing it, im assuming its the headset, but it feels fine, and i dont feel any vibrating when im riding.

I know this is a general question, but is there anything i could try loosening then tightening to solve it. Or will it remain a mystery?

  • what type of headset?

  • chris king grip nut...

...did have that in my original post but accidentally deleted it out.

  • Sounds stupid, have you checked the lock rings that come on the inner tube valves?

  • dont have any.

and i know it is stupid and odd, but its bugging me like f**** crazy.

  • is the headseat tight?

  • if you put on the front brake (0r otherwise immobilise the front wheel) and try and roll the bike forward and back, and there is a clicking noise, then its likely that the headset is indeed loose

  • right i took the headset apart and re greased, and after tightening it the noise has gone. i think it was the top cap. must of had a bit of play.

    cheers for the input fellas.

  • chris king headsets are a bit finiky to get installed right, but once you have them, they will stay forever.

  • naah my klunk is more frequent than that about 3-4 times per rotation of the crank arm but only when applying alot of force ie going up a steep hill or pulling away as fast as possible, my money is on the bottom bracket being a bit dodgy some how.

  • got a similar problem with mine, am pretty sure now that it is coming from the bottom bracket.

  • Poltergeist innit?

  • are you saying my bike is built over an indian graveyard?

  • well techy psychological science types have done tests and such, and apparently the phenomena we call "poltergeists" is nearly always reported when there is a young girl going through puberty in the house who is experiencing stress, the theory being that the phenomena is actually uncontrolled telechenetic force emanating from said girl without her knowledge.

Wouldn't recommend that, you'll never get them off again! Use copper grease.

  • are you saying my bike is built over an indian graveyard?

    That's right...

  • cant believe that no one has made a comment about anal noise yet! haha

  • @lewis from lewes, dude there's a whole other thread taking the piss out of this one, plenty of anal references there
