I vote to make this thread sticky! I get called a c*nt daily... by you lot :)
In actual fact twice y'day I had people step out in front of me to a near miss and a 'what the F*CK was taht about' from myself... sometimes this causes a bit of verbal in my direction.
mate if you get a handful of abuse daily, then there's seriously something wrong with your riding style!

Almost got sideswipped yesterday, I let out my now usual gutteral roar to indicate I was within inches, bloke driving appologised, but grumpy looking woman in passenger seat started swearing at me because she had kids in the back!
WTF! I was supposed to get run over quietly for fear of being an annoyance to her kids?

What an irony, women swearing in front of her kids!

Or like the car driver overheard on Critical Mass yesterday. He'd got out of his car as we were going around the Bullring and a Masser who was corking was calmly explaining to him what it was all about. The driver got more and more irate, so the Masser said 'calm down' or words to that effect. Driver: 'NO, YOU F***ING CALM DOWN!!!'

my favourite new trick.. is to take my hands off the bars, cover my face, and scream like a lunatic about to crash, the response you get is amazing, and it normally leaves me laughing for at least 10 minutes :)
Brilliant! You did this when we were riding up Bishopsgate, the expressions on the lemmings faces was so funny!

"what an idiot, what a real bloody idiot"
said to me by some old bloke who honestly thought me pulling out in front of his car which at the time was moving no faster than 2mph was dangerous -

I dunno how you guys do it, I can find no time to do anything other than evasive manoeuvring in these situations, which is probably worse, especially when the pedestrian has stepped out and is facing away from you.
My natural reaction is to whistle to get their attention, in that really loud way using your tongue, which is completely insane because I can't even do it! So basically I just blow air out my mouth silently.

Just posted this on another thread, but got told to fuck off by a police man as I cycled past at the back of critical mass yesterday, completely unprovoked, especially as it wasn't even explicit that I was even riding with CM...

My cousin has the best condescending whistle at low speed. You know that whistle that conveys "I cant believe you're such a fucking numskull - a less skilled rider would have fucked you up"
You can see them nod in agreement. Its ace.

As I approached home on Friday night a ped crossed the road while texting, he looked up and saw me and put on a guilty face. I laughed and said "ah the classic, texting and crossing the road". We had a little chat and as he left he said "thank you for laughing at me".

Question:
Cunt crosses road with ipod/phone and coffee in hand inappropriately, what do you do?
A: Mow him/her down
B: Slap the coffee out if his/her hands
C: Yank their headphone cord or mobiled: spit on them (if pigs haven't got your dna)
e: flying clothesline (although this can hurt you too if you're not careful) also don't forget to tap your elbow first
f: stop your bike in front of them and make it hard for them to cross the road (for added effect put fingers in ears and sing 'la-la-la-li-la...')
g: sneak up behind them and smack their arse REALLY hard
h: stop and explain to them that could end up in hospital or worse if they don't pay attention to their surroundings
i just ride around them thinking that someone else can run them over for me. -

Friday night on the way to Euston after work, guy in a Pink Express van told me what he thought of me and all cyclists as I didn't pull away fast enough for him to rag it off of the lights.
Tried to catch up with him to discuss his objection to all cyclists etc. but he didn't seem to want to slow down for a chat, and the lights were on his side.
Grrrr......
