• That's what I thought

• Dont forget that the exchange rate was much better when they bought the 2009 stock.

Current lead times for Merida/Giant (main specialised builders) run at about 150days inc shipping, so in theory, the 09 bikes that landed in sept 09 would have been ordered around April 09, when the USD/GBP was $1.97/£1.

Look back to the same time this year when the 2010 stuff would have been ordered & it was $1.43/£1, thats a 27% difference..

Sea Frieght rates have dropped over the last 6-8months offsetting the price increases a little too, however, this cost is about to rise as the vessels start to get fuller again, luckly the GBP is getting a abit stronger, so these increases should be minimal.

Unless the bikes are to go up by 20-30%, some specification changes have had to be made to the bike to maintain the key price points.

• i dont know if i saw the 2009 or 2010 but in my lbs the other day one of them was in there and i actually liked it! i always thought they looked horrible, especially with risers. kind of fuji track esque styling.

• F-k it, you can't put a price on a good time!

• you know that for sure?

it wouldn't surprise me if it goes to 19% sometime in the next few years 'to bring us into line with europe' instead of 'we need as much revenue as we can get cos we fucked up'

Wait a sec we pay 22.5%! bloody moaning brits*.

BTW my local bike store put a crazy new bike on display the other month. Tis a Spesh, with like no gears or nathin, and its this hip yellow colour, all done out like an american taxi. Bet you guys in the UK have never seen such a crazy machine. Keep up.

(*written by a brit, who was himself, moaning about VAT)

• I work in Brixton Cycles.

Yeah, Hattie is off now, which is a shame.

I thought it was a bit of a funny answer, IE the brakes thing, but I'm not always sure about legalities of who and what.
I do know that the steel langster was made for the USA primarily, hence the brake issue.

reeeeepost

keep up.

• The deal the with specialized is that haven't brought out all the 2010 bikes yet, so some are still to come.
The problem with the steel one is that it comes without a brake and isn't legal in GB, so it's not legal for them to sell them.
I've been told they are trying to find a solution, but no dice yet.

You mean like, ooh I dunno, fitting a brake?

• (from the Evans page for the Langster 2010)
Description:
Track racers and fearless urban commuters are a particular breed of rider, and for them, only the simplest, purest form of speed gets the blood flowing. Whether racing the yellow light or velodrome finish, the Specialized Langster family promises a high speed, high performance joy ride with unmatched efficiency and razor-sharp handling.

Fearless urban commuters. Ooh. They think they're special but they're just like all the other fearless urban commuters. For that reason I will always stay a fairly courteous multi-zonal tootler.

• Nhatt - evans sell the fuji track though, and that comes with NoBrakes I think

It's drilled for a brake, I think they put one on before they sell it

• Piss take at the ready but i LOVE the Tokyo Langster... I would literally cut off a small toe for one

• I rather like the new black one. Probably less attractive to thieves than the silver or monaco versions too eh?

• Well black mean it look like those black hybrid MTB, but a bit flashier looking, as well as being pretty common and indistinctive, thus make it even more appealing to theft.

• Pretty much all the distibuters are out of anything that people actually want to buy, so the 2010's are coming out early.

This is true, a couple of months ago I wanted to get a new bike. It was very difficult to find anything I actually wanted, it was all too big, too small, or there weren't any left

• curses brixton cycles who wouldnt put a new spoke in my wheel the day before the bikeathon after i rode all the way there from birmingham

i disagree; surely bikes that look nice or flashy/expensive are more likely to be nicked.

• surely there was a shop closer to Birmingham than Brixton?

• i disagree; surely bikes that look nice or flashy/expensive are more likely to be nicked.

naturally, but theft like it when it look like any other bike - easier to sell and harder to get caught, it's riskier selling a very distinctive bike, like eyebrow's geekhouse that end up in Somerset of all place (and it been recovered).

• look somewhat different from the original.

• nice

• nice

+1

That is very nice!

• surely there was a shop closer to Birmingham than Brixton?

ofcourse there was! i rode from birmingham to brixton the day before the bikeathon - broke a spoke a few miles out of brixton, tried a few shops including brix cycles but no-one was able to help.

As it happened, the wheel survived the bikeathon, and the return journey from brix to brum the day after without even going out of true :)

it might have been you that i asked actually!

• langster steel/globe roll will be arriving in the uk in october, according to specialized.

Where is the specialized concept store?

• So on the Specialized USA website these are listed as $660, cheaper than the standard Langsters' $720. Has anyone seen a UK price yet?
