  • Yeah but profit comes through deals with suppliers, meaning limited choice at best. See Ribble and Planet X.

Agreed. But you could do it through your LBS. I think Trek and Cannondale did similar thinks on pain and decals at one time.

If Specialized had a build your own Langster section on the site it could be ordered, paid for and delivered though your nearest Specialized dealer.

The logistics are pretty simple if you keep the variations manageable... 5 frame colors (plus custom paint and decals for extra dosh), 3 types of bars, half a dozen wheel options. 4 different saddles and seatposts and a few cranksets and chains... it's basically what they're doing for the City Langsters but they let the customer choose the combination of components.... You can build an entire bike or if you only want wheels and frame that's all you get.

  • Like IRO did in the US?

  • Like IRO did in the US?

I'm not familiar with the IRO deal... but probably.

One of my favourite pastimes is building (well... assembling) bikes fro parts gleaned from ebay and online closeouts and online swaps and trades... at the moment I have everything I need for a nice FGSS except the right frame headset, and wheels. It probably stems from my yoof when I used to search scrapyards for frames and components and build bikes.

  • my man at Specialized says yes it's real and it'll be released in about 3 months. Also that it may not be sold in the US but... if people create a fuss, i'm sure they will a la Bianchi USA and the Pista (love that bike).

I'll be getting one for the tarck, in order to be laughed at, which I will turn into fuel :)

3 months as in with the 2010 batch of new models? can't wait. what else did he tell you?

  • I really like the look of this and by the sounds of it it's real! i may have to hold off buying a new frame for 3 months :)
I think the allu langster is getting a makeover too gone back to the 2006 scheme

  • Did your mole at Specialised happen to say Evans will sell it? My Ride2Work scheme only deals with them!

  • Here is the media blurb:

The new Langster steel is Specialized's first foray in to the world of Keirin racing. It will be the only mass produced NJS stamped Keirin framest made outside of Japan. Specialized have teamed up with Dokuru and will be providing frames and componentry to a Keirin team in 2010. Langster steel sold as frameset only, expected to arrive in Continental US stores by August 09. MSRP $650

  • Is this the end of the world?

  • it's NJS? what the fuck is going on.

  • Omfg! Wtf! Wwthdn!

  • haha, wicked!

  • it was only a matter of time, so many fixed and single speed commuter bikes they need to set themselves as a "semi" serious race bike, means a 56 keirin frame without being a rare find.

  • I imagine they'll produce them in the same scope of sizes as they do the current Langster.

  • i think i want one, weird.

  • Blimey, the Langster managed to put these two words together; NJS and OTP.

  • Holy crap! NJS langster, never, ever saw that coming. . . still i would prefer a custom BJ all the way! . . .

  • by the time they have finished there will be a new TLA in the market that will mean quality above and beyond - OOL

  • I imagine a lot of cheap steel track frames could pass NJS requirements if the manufacturers wanted to pay to have them certified. Does anybody know what the actual requirements are? Just have to be steel, double triangle, no aero tubes, no bosses, and above a certain weight?

  • somehow NJS just doesn't have that same charm anymore..

  • it looks nice.

  • somehow NJS just doesn't have that same charm anymore..

What's charm there is in a licensing body?? that like saying "shit, my MOT doesn't have the same charm anymore"

  • somehow NJS just doesn't have that same charm anymore..

much like BS6102 and the kite mark

  • First Radio 4 now this.

Wonder how that pie-plate fixxy skidder on current projects is going ...
